6 plays. Split veer. It's like novocaine. Just give it time, always works.

split back veer is simple to teach, fundamentally sound and it is fun for everyone to play

Works great if you have the fatties. At that age it's all about 1 of 2 things. You either have a good OL, mostly due to size or you have a freak in the backfield. We had the freak last year. We tried to run the option as well as some wing T and our line just wasn't good enough. Lost the first 3 games. Then we switched to what I talked about with the 4 WRs out of the pistol and beat the crap out of everyone, making it to the finals. Team we played in the finals beat us 30-0 during the regular season. We lost 22-16 with them scoring late to win the game...huge improvement though. The slots were about 4-5 yards outside the tackles and would usually block the OLB. The back would block the first guy he crossed. Usually there was a lane between the corner and OLB. The QB/Wildcat would be 1 on 1 with the safety and usually win the battle.

Also, the reverse sucked for us, but the reverse fake scored EVERY TIME. Kid ran a great fake holding the ball out then pulled it in and was gone.

so you know what I am going to do? I am going to put 5 men on the line with 4 LBs and 2 CBs on the slots, leave the outside receivers uncovered

I would love it if you did that. Id hang a half hundred on your team if you did that.

Not gonna work.

You cant expect 10 year olds to be able to pass the ball regularly, nor can you expect them to run read options or just options in general.

Really?

That is not our team in the link, btw.

We have run the spread since Flag I with our boys. It is what they run at the jr high and high levels with our school, so we add plays and formations every year. Lost 1 game last year and won the "Toy Bowl" (with 9-10 year olds). This year our 10 year old team is 3-0 and hasn't been scored on yet. Won 14-0, 21-0, 21-0.

To be successful you have to have a qb that is your best athlete, he has to be able to run and pass.

You won't scare the crap out of anyone with that offense but, most won't know how to defend it. Most teams will run a 4-4, or 5-2 because most teams at that age run the ball. If you line up and they are in a 3-5-3 then you better come up with something quick because they are on to you.

Good Luck

Next year I'm thinking about installing a 4 receiver Spread offense for my 10 year olds

I would laugh at you and your quarterback would only play 4 maybe 5 plays...

if you think it sucks to get 9 year olds to pull and block try pass blocking and catching passes...

This is a football-rich area and yes these kids can throw it and catch it.

After sleeping on it last night. I've narrowed it down to the Split Veer and the Version of the Spread tht Auburn currently runs. It's a beautiful thing.

did you catch the part where he said they are 10 year olds?

my son is 10, in the 5th grade and plays on his catholic school team of 5th and 6th graders. they practice three days a week, are well coached and have 28 boys on the team. out of that 28 they have maybe 3 kids that can consistently catch the football on the run and all three of them are 11/12 and in the 6th grade. The only QB that can consistently take a 3 step drop and accurately throw the ball to the sidelines under pressure is also 12.

So I have seen all the other teams in their private school league so far (8 teams total) and one team is trying to run the zone read with the formation spread out and what I described is exactly what happens to them. Nobody plays the WRs farthest from the ball, they just send two defenders through the interior gaps and that team gets killed every week.

So either you over estimate your coaching ability or you over estimate the ability of 10 yr olds to perform your wildest flag football type offenses in full pads.

my kid would go off on an other 10 year old sitting back to pass...... it would be ugly.

i am a highschool coach. thats too young to do the spread. Get under center and run power, counter, iso, toss, a naked boot and 3 step hitch ect. It is much better to be good at 3-4 things than be ok at 20 things

and i run spread in high school so i am a fan but please focus on fundamentals at that level
