Bird will have surgery Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, an injury he also suffered in May of his rookie season.

He filled in pretty damn well late last season, and given the inevitable Tex injury to come, pretty big blow.

Gotta wonder what having that major of a surgery now twice, means long term.

If Tex can stay healthy, this won't be a huge loss. But Tex won't stay healthy.

It'd be pretty devastating for a pitcher. It's bad for an infielder too. Shoulders are complicated, with many moving parts all close together.

That's crazy - Bird man was fairly clutch last year and he was GREAT insurance against a Tex injury (likely) or an Arod injury (likely).
