Yay for Beer!

quote:

Board Chair Carolyn Long announced a request from the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to amend BOG Policy 18 (Section 4.1) to permit controlled beer sales at certain athletic events. Details of the proposed policy will be available on the Board’s web site (bog.wvu.edu) sometime next week for a 30-day comment period.
The proposal is one of several changes the athletic department is considering for game day operations centered around improving security, fan behavior and public safety at Milan Puskar Stadium this fall. These include revisions to practices around exiting and re-entering the stadium and moving smoking areas outside the concourse, athletic officials say.

What's next, selling couches, lighter fluid, and matches at their souvenir stand for post-game celebrations?

:hatersgonnahate:

BTW... I hope this rule is passed by our game time. Drunken hillbillies and coonasses stuffed in a stadium getting loaded on beer will probably bring this idea to an end, but what a great festive event it would be.

Kent State sells beer and runs beer specials in their stadium. No go though.

Agree, not that I've ever met anyone who needed a beer during the game, it's nice to know we may be able to go get some if necessary

Could you imagine how much more money LSU could make if TS wasn't on campus? If WVU's football stadium isn't on campus. why wasn't this done YEARS ago?

I know it used to be commonplace but it seemed a lot of schools had moved away from alcohol @ sporting events. Hopefully its making a comeback

I thought a school couldn't sell beer if a stadium is on campus?

Mountaineer Field is still the largest on-campus facility in the Big East Conference.

I thought that was the case, and Milan-Puskar Stadium is definitely on campus, but the OP link was right from the University website

This has nothing to do with on vs off campus. Tulane has sold beer at Fogelman Arena and Turchin Stadium for years, and both are on campus.

Syracuse sells beer at the Carrier Dome, which I believe is on campus.

Is this going to be in effect for the 2011 season? The season when they play LSU?

According to the original link they are trying to get it done before this fall, so I would say, yes.

pretty sure there's an SEC rule against it

I could be wrong, though.
