Would a Super Bowl ending in OT like this cause NFL to change to rules?

Lord knows how long people will talk about it. NFL do need to change the rules however.

They should just play 10-12 more minutes of football. Normal rules. No possession limits or anything like that.

If at the end of that, there is no winner, then go to sudden death.

The NFL wants to limit OT snaps for safety and time. I doubt they will ever go to a pure "each team gets a possession" system.

They want someone to score and end it.

The NFL would never agree to that.

Sudden death should never be used because it always leaves the game up to chance.

in the regular season... agreed

In the playoffs, no thanks. Just play another period with normal rules.

It would happen like once a season

College OT is artificial as hell, but there's no doubt it's much fairer.

Lets say after the Arizona TD in OT, we give Rodgers the ball. GB don't score, game over. It's fair. If GB Scores TD, make them go for 2. Do or Die situation. But it's fair since both teams touch the ball.

I don't see why... There is a coin flip and you have a chance to stop the other team and get the ball back....

The NFL's worst nightmare is a star player injured in the 10th minute of a two score OT game in the playoffs.

Roger Goodwell might literally die.

I like this idea but maybe make it 7-10m, just a bit shorter. Leave regular season games as is.

Yeah, that's not their worst nightmare

Put in a rule that if a team goes up 2 scores, they win. But you really wouldn't even need to do that.

Or a rule that says if a team has both the lead and possession of the ball, they win.

I'm cool with that.

In basketball and hockey, when the game is tied, they just play another (shorter) period. Why can't the NFL just do the same?

Make it 8 minutes. Both teams are likely going to get the ball. And if they don't, it means one team sustained an 8 minute drive and won the game. If that happens, the defensive team doesn't deserve to win.

Sounds like a plan to me.

It's really not too difficult. At some point, it would have to go to sudden death. Just to avoid a 90 minute game.

The NFL literally changed an entire chapter in the rule book because Tom Brady tore his ACL in the first quarter of a week 1 game. They put in a brand new rule because TO broke his leg in a regular season game.

You're out of your goddamn mind if you think that same league is gonna make Aaron Rodgers stand in the pocket in a two score OT game. Out of your damned mind.

Again, a 10-minute overtime period isn't going to cause an uproar. Overtime periods usually go 5-7 minutes at least anyways, nowadays.
