That's how the 20,000-to-1 ticket of Las Vegas resident Tayla Polia, 26, read for Week 15. And if you're reading this post, you already know she won. (How much? Oh, just $100,000 on a $5 bet.) What you may not know is that she thought she lost.

quote:

Polia had to call William Hill, the site on which she placed the bet, to inquire about how it is she won a bet that included a team that lost. They explained the concept of point spreads to her and that, since she bet on the Giants getting five points from the Panthers and they only lost by three, she still won that particular game.

"I somehow drove back home to tell my boyfriend in person," she said. "Of course, he didn't believe me."

I'll never understand betting or how you can win $100k off of $5.

For every $5 15 team parlay bet that wins, 22,000 lose.

She needs to send a thank you card to the refs for not ejecting OBJ

So in this instance the house comes out +$10k. Doesn't seem exactly worth it on their part.

House loses $100k for every 22,000 $5 bets that are lost. 22k x $5 = $110k. House comes out ahead $10k.

Yea, I suck at math. $10K still doesn't seem like all that much for the house

22,000 times 5 is 110,000 dude. They come out 10,000 in the positive on average.

well that also assumes everyone that bets puts down only $5. also, the house doesn't exactly rely on 15-team parlays for their profits

That's irrelevant. Casinos aren't going to offer any gambling form with a net negative return for them and justify it by saying they make money elsewhere. That's a 10% house edge in this case. That's enormous. Blackjack has around a .5% house edge and pretty much every casino offers it.

Well this is the 100,000 parlay card so you have to bet $5. It's like buying a raffle ticket.

They also had a $5 progressive that was up to 145,000 because it rolled over from previous weeks but many people hit it so they all had to split the pot.

Are you guys considering the juice too? Sports books typically take a 10% commission on all bets.

and this chick is the anti-PEEJ. Has no clue what she's doing, wins huge.

The juice is factored into every parlay already. A parlay's true odds are better than the actual payout.

Well the odds are VERY low that this win happens so the house usually takes the 220,000$ Every week. They just "lost" THIS week. Get it?

Running a business that makes a profit doesn't seem worth it to you?

ETA: And this shite is just fricking crazy. That woman needs to buy a powerball ticket quick before the luck runs out.
