I assume that sequence is to land Hayward first, then trade for PG.

Yes, because the idea is that they only have to send out 14.5 mil in salaries in the trade for George, while taking back his 19.5 mil contract, which would add 5 mil to their cap and make it harder to sign Hayward. So rather than do that, they'll clear enough cap space to sign Hayward (30.3 mil), then make the trade for George (Probably Bradley 8.8, Tatum 4.5, Rozier ~2) along with picks, or something like that.

the Pacers may be unwilling to wait until the start of July free agency on Boston’s timetable

they've turned everything else down with the quickness to where there's really no team left first off. Second, free agency starts on Saturday, it's not like we're weeks off

Yes, but what Boston is saying they need a commitment first from Hayward before they make any pursuit for George. So the only way they trade for George is if Gordon is on board
I see, I see.

What's up with Klay to LA? Is that a thing before next season?

That would be next season I assume if it happens

PG13 would immediately become my second favorite Laker of all time if Boston dumps a bunch of assets for him and he still walks in 2018.

Would be absolutely hilarious to me if Warriors only get 1 and lose Klay to LAL.

1. Force Boston to dump a bunch of assets
2. Beat Lebron into submission
3. Not win the championship for Boston

Perfect scenario

The Celtics have a growing confidence they could sign George to a contract extension,

If this true, then Paul isn't as big of a Lakers fan as he has said he is

Your overall point is correct obviously in that they haven't found the offer they'd pull the trigger on yet.

But, a whole heck of a lot can happen in the next 5 days, not to mention, Hayward doesn't have to make a decision on Saturday, so it could be longer.

Unless I am reading this wrong, Boston is willing to unload a bunch of folks for George knowing he could just turn around and sign with the Lakers in 2018? Or would his trade be contingent on signing an extension and not being just a one-year rental

I mean of course they think that. But he is literally telling people that he isn't signing long term with anyone unless it's the Lakers. If the Celtics bring him in and get him to stay, kudos to them, but I wouldn't be feeling confident

Because I want an Eastern team to get better and 2 Western Conf. teams to become worse?

Mmmkay.

I think he was a Clippers fan when he was a kid. I heard that somewhere.

I don't believe anyone but the Lakers could get him to sign the extension now. I do believe if a contender takes a chance on him they can convince him to sign over the next year.

There's no reason George should sign an extension with anyone including the Lakers. Someone one twitter shot down that Boston rumor with a graph that showed how much PG would lose if he signed an extension this season rather than opting out.

To be fair that's just the YMCA thing for kids in the LA area. Like those are the unis you get

He was a big Kobe guy growing up though so maybe he was a clipper fan but it doesn't seem like it

If that's the case, I would think that's a huge risk for Boston. Unloading a bunch of premium assets for one year with hopes of winning a title. Unsure why they are dead set on acquiring him
