Elena Delle Donne continues to fight for equality in her sport, recently telling New York Magazine she would like to see the media to refer to her and her WNBA counterparts as “basketball players” and not “female basketball players.”

But there is one thing the Chicago Sky forward would like to see changed to further set the WNBA apart from the NBA: A lowered rim.

“I think it would bring a whole different aspect to the game and bring viewership as well and show the athleticism of our women,” she told For The Win at Nike’s Innovation Summit on Wednesday. “We do every single thing on that court that the men do, other than the dunking. And, obviously, there is a handful of athletes who can dunk.”

“But when look at other sports like volleyball, their net’s lower,” she continued. “Golf, their tees are closer. It goes on and on. Tennis, they play [fewer] sets. Why not lower our rim and let every single player player in the league play above the rim like the NBA can?”

How is that equality? Lemme do my math....10 feet does not equal 8 feet.

I agree with her. Sadly, people will misrepresent her as bitching about equality when she clearly acknowledges the inferiority of females in basketball and points out that most other sports create the rules with that in consideration.

What she says makes sense. Size matters more in hoops than just about any other sport.

So she fights for equality in women's sports while acknowledging that women are not equal. Seems legit

I don't care if the rim is 6 foot not many of them can catch a lob and finish like the men do. I have no problem with lowering the rim but to act like the game is the same between genders is ridiculous.

I can get on board with just lowering the goals, as that would improve the overall quality of the product. But if she's one of these females pushing for equal pay with their men counterparts, then she can frig right off.

She has a point but you could but moving the goal isn't going to make women any better athletes, I can't think of any sport where women can even come close to competing. Even sports where the participants are derided for not being athletes like golf and auto racing.

The players are smaller. The ball is already smaller. Might as well lower the rim.

Maybe a little? Half a foot? The ball is an inch smaller right?

The best comment of the story was her response to Taurasi saying we might as well go back to the kitchen. Della Donne on Sportscenter said she belongs there and wouldn't mind since her hero was her mom, who was stay at home mother. She's handled the bashing pretty good I'd say.

Isn't she the hot one? Can we not get at least 1 pic for our troubles of actually opening up a thread on the WNBA?

I was disappointed when I opened the thread as well. I seem to remember that she cleans up pretty nicely.
