Can they finally make it to the World Series with all these high draft picks and last year finally breaking through to make the playoffs for the first time in several seasons?

They have broken ground on the Stros and Nationals spring training facility right by my neighborhood in West Palm. I was going to post pics of the progress because I drive by it everyday.

I don't know about their chances to win this year, but hopefully the Astros and/or the Nationals do well and drive up the property prices in my neighborhood.

i see them slightly regressing by few wins. Still need an ace and some bats that dont K so much. Will battle for that wild card

How much regression do you see for Keuchel? Do you not trust McHugh? I think he is at least league average. Fiers and Fister are both pretty solid, but that rotation has no velocity. Scott Feldman is meh at best.

Tells me all I need to know about your baseball knowledge. They have the damned Cy Young winner on their staff.

You can say they need another arm or even another top half of the rotation guy but they don't need an ACE. An Ace is your top guy and they have that.

Odds are always "no" when asking if this is the year the _______ make/win the World Series

While it may be obvious, I think the big question of which Texas Rangers team we get will be the answer to how much success Houston will have. If you get 2015 August/September Rangers then I think it'll be a tough year for Houston, and Yu coming back with a full year of Hamels certainly improves those chances. Knowing Texas the last few years, someone will prob have a season ending injury before Memorial Day...

Seems like there are just a ton of question marks for the whole AL West. A healthy Angels team is never going to be an easy series. The Mariners have a ton of talent (while not having a ton of pitching depth) and they were playing real good ball at the end of last season. And then of course there's the giant thorn in Houston's side aka the A's

All in all, I'm going into the season as extremely cautiously optimistic but it's such a good feeling to even be having this discussion after the last 10 years

Here's to baseball season

Regarding the pitching, one would have to think if Houston were to find themselves in the playoff hunt come the deadline and a team with some solid starters (like Tampa, Cleveland, San Diego) are underperforming that the Astros would be active in trying to get that extra starter needed for a run.

hahah, exactly, not to mention another guy who was damned near a 20 game winner last year too...agreed they may need another mid-rotation starter, but with Keuchel, McHugh and McCullers, I'd put those 3 up with anyone right now.

Can they? Yes. Will they? Who knows? I think they'll at. Least play for the pennant.

I understand what LE is saying about an ace. An Ace is someone who can duplicate his performance every year. Until that happens, Astros don't have an Ace. Of course the Keuchel/McCullars combo should prove to be solid this year.

Don't forget, the Astros will start the season with this year's MVP playing short stop. And no Chris Carter in the lineup. Those two items alone will be a significant improvement over last year.

Winning the cy young just means he was an ace last year, he has good stuff just not ace stuff. Expect some regression

Pitchers and catchers have reported, Lester is trolling Astros fans again. This feels right. I think they'll win the west but not the title. 88 or so wins.

I think Astros win the division. The Rangers are the team more likely to fall back and I think they will fall back.
AL is really balanced. 90 wins will be tough to get for any team. The NL will have several inflated record teams but not the AL

Definitely agree with this. The NL has 4 or 5 teams that have a chance to be elite (95+ wins) while the gap between the best and worst team in the AL is not much.
