Bob Stoops used to be a great big game coach that he once had the nickname of "Big Game Bob". However that all changed after Mike Stoops left to become the new Head Coach at Arizona.

Bob Stoops record with Mike Stoops as OU DC

14-3 against ranked competition (12-1 after initial 1999 season)
4-1 record against Texas
3-1 record in Bowl Games
2-0 record in BCS Bowl Games

Mike Stoops left to become the HC of the Wildcats the week before the 2003 Big 12 Championship Game.

Since that time, Oklahoma has:

lost in embarrassing fashion to Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship Game

lost to LSU in the BCS National Championship Game

lost to USC in humiliating fashion in the National Championship Game

lost to Boise State in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl

gotten blown out by West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl

lost to Florida in the National Championship Game

1-5 record in BCS Bowl Games

4-5 record in Bowl Games

4-4 record against Texas

Will we finally see a reverse of fortune for Bob Stoops in big games if his brother returns to Oklahoma to be his DC or has he lost his magic in big games for good?

He was mostly called Big game Bob for beating fellow choking dog Mack Brown.

Mike Stoops coached in both of those games. He might have accepted the AZ job before, but he coached OU for both games.

Actually pretty reasonable

There is a ton of distinction in that program right now, next year could be interesting

His head definitely wasn't in it when Oklahoma played Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship Game. Even Todd Blackledge strongly hinted at it after hearing the results during the LSU/Georgia SEC Championship Game. I thought Mike Stoops left before playing LSU in the national championship game that year but if he didn't, his defense played good enough to win. OU caused Matt Mauck to commit several turnovers and held LSU to something like 122 yards passing. OU just didn't get anything from their offense in that game.

Actually, LSU had 312 yards in total offense, 159 yards rushing and 153 yards in the air. OU had 154 yards in total offense. LSU averaged 4.9 yards per play. OU averaged 2.2. LSU lost one fumble and had 2 interceptions. OU fumbled twice, lost none, and had 2 interceptions.

Is it a sure thing that Mike is returning to OU?
