Manning, 33, is currently signed through 2015 at base salaries of $15.15 million this year, and $17 million next year. ESPN's Dan Graziano reported in April that the Giants are concerned Eli has entered his decline phase after leading the NFL in interceptions (27) last season.
last two years of his 7 year deal....they could drop him now and save a ton
Eli has 205 turnovers in 152 career games
they could trade for Christian Ponder and release Eli now
career completion %:
Eli 58.5%
Ponder 60.2%
and spend $$$ on O-line

how does this make them a better team? eli has won two super bowls with them, whereas christian ponder's only acclaim is that he married that hot chick from ESPN....

Eli got a new OC as well, so maybe he bounces back on 2014. As for the op and the ponder trade

sign dude for cheap
lock in NYG coveted players in extensions this year with added "free" money
use "free" money next year for FA talent
go rookie QB in draft locked in for next to nothing for 4 years
can ponder be any worse than Eli last year?

yes... and by a large margin at that... ponder is a backup, nothing more...

much worse

The only thing keeping this from being the worst thread of the offseason is your "Should Denver cut Peyton" thread from a week ago.

Cutting Eli for Ponder is soooOOOoOoooooooo stupid. Chase Daniel has a 68.1 career completion percentage.
If you're going to go full retard, you might as well go all the way.

You make Peej look like a solid poster. May God have mercy on your soul.

Have made the argument numerous times the Bengals should trade for Eli
A swap of Dalton + pick for Eli would benefit both teams, IMO.

He's on the roster bubble. Apparently he's been pretty terrible

Eli got a new OC
so it's been his OCs all this time that have made eli have a sub 60% completion rating?
usually only running QBs have that

That can't be. The msb told me he was the going to be a stud

that's the FA I would be targeting next year.....rather than pay Eli 17m
so make this a restructuring year
if they cut him, how much would they be under cap to use to sign players to extensions now so that their bonuses don't count towards the cap next year

Do you still think the Denver Broncos cut Peyton Manning?
Posted on 7/20/14 at 2:17 pm to Iona Fan Man
I don't know the details of his contract but usually those big contracts are guaranteed a good bit, and cutting him would put them in cap hell. If you cut Eli, you don't just gain 17 million in cap space unless it was completely unguarenteed, which I highly highly doubt.
