Why did OU struggle so badly with their backup QB? That wasn't a good sign. Keep in mind ND has been playing its 3rd string QB most of the year after Golson transferred and Zaire got hurt. There is something to be said for that.

Because he sucks when he's not playing a team named Alabama.

I've always thought taking injuries into accounts is dumb. Just go by the results and résumés.
They shouldn't try to project who would beat whom, otherwise Iowa wouldn't be that high again, just go by results and résumés.

I agree with you on injuries. Thus, I don't think it matters that Mayfield got hurt and why it was a tight game.

Still plenty of football left to be played. SC can do the Irish a huge favor by beating ucla, and then losing to Stanford in the PAC 12 Championship game.

USC vs. ucla this Saturday will be for all the marbles in the PAC-12 South.

I think the Trojans win this one.

The PAC 12 CCG? Not so sure about winning that one, which works in ND's favor.

USC Winning this week helps ND, but the outcome of the CCG would become a little less relevant as they would have beaten the PAC 12 champ either way.
Which is better? beating 10-3 and 8-5 or two 9-4s? Arguments can be made for both, but USC could be out of the top 25 at 8-5 which is something they look at.....but Stanford would be in or very close to the top 10 at 10-3, which would be huge.

It's better for ND's prestige for Stanford to win the P12 CCG after ND beats them.

The thing is, I'm not so sure ND beats Stanford.

What I'm saying is that ND also beat USC.

However, Bama will have 4 top 25 wins by the end of the Season. Miss St, Florida, Wisky, and Texas A&M (WTF happened to the SEC Big 6 this year)

When Florida loses to FSU and Bama and Ole Miss beats Mississippi St, I expect Bama to end the season without a single win against the top 25. It's gonna be hysterical to watch.

Even as bad as Florida has been playing they're still not going to fall out of the top 25 at 10-3.

Deserving or not*, no way ND gets dropped from the top 4 if they win out. If you think a bunch of middle-aged (or older) people who still remember Notre Dame as an iconic program will not include them in a playoff at every opportunity, I don't know what to tell you.

*I despise ND with a passion, but right now they have as much of a claim as anyone outside of Clemson.

I think they could lose both games by double digits. Maybe the pollsters will somehow keep them in, but that's not a top 25 team.

The best team Alabama beat is Mississippi St, and the gap is wide between them and everyone else.

It'll be fun to watch. Hogan is a bipolar player, when he's on, he's really good. When he's off, he's awful.

They have big dudes on the OL to match ND's DL, and you know what McCaffrey can do.

I feel ND should win, I'm just not convinced they will. Call it a hunch. I think McCaffrey will be the difference, so he's my hunch back of Notre Dame.

ND has a ton of injuries, not sure if a win is possible - plus, they havent won in Palo Alto in years.

although the spread is only Stanford -3 (I expected it to be -7) so Im more optimistic about NDs chances than i was before the line release.

It might be hypocritical, but when looking at Alabama theoretically not having any Top 25 wins at the end of the season, I don't think it will make any difference. They are clearly the second best team in the country, even an argument for first, and they are playing lights out right now. If Notre Dame had to line up against any team in the country in two weeks, Alabama is the only team I would not be completely confident about playing. Though I would love the match ups with Brown, Fuller, Carlisle, Robinson, etc. with their secondary.

If you're going on form alone, I'd say nobody wants to play Oregon or for that matter Arkansas right now. Fortunately for the contenders, neither of them is in the mix.

No.

They are Notre Dame. Both they and Alabama get the benefit of the doubt based on name alone.

Good Lord. Don't know how I missed that result. I'll have to replace Arky on my list of "teams no one wants to play, but won't make the playoffs" list then.

Oregon's still on it.

ND doesn't drop unless they lose, or Clemson loses and falls to 4.
