It would be hard because it would require 20+ seasons of averaging 200 hits, a mark of longevity and consistency that's rare. It's not an untouchable record like 511 wins by a pitcher, but it's still very difficult. I do agree with the person that said if ichiro began his career in MLB he may have had a shot....he stayed consistent and amazingly healthy

To call the MLB hit record one of them is stupid.

Players will not play that long or be as consistant as Rose was...........

Not a record but there will never be a 300 game winner in the MLB again. To many pampered starters nowadays when you look at the stupid "quality start" as 5-6 innings...........

Mike Trout currently has 652 hits and he's only 23. Technically, he could get there around age 44 or so assuming he maintains production (HUUUUGE IF).

It's an amazing accomplishment.
Miguel Cabrera is the other WAAAYYY REMOTE threat to break it if he maintains production into his early 40s.

It might not be one of the "true unbreakables" like Cy Young's wins record which is absolutely impossible to break, but of the "breakable" records it is one of the most unbreakable, if that makes any sense.
