He was a talented player treated like a journey man. He was on 4 teams in 6 seasons and 9 total. He was traded for some talented players at least (Barkley, Kidd). The Alien was my favorite player as a kid and I enjoyed getting to see him again during the Shooting Stars Contest during All-Star Weekend. He won 3 titles and reached the CF with the Wolves and Bucks. Not a bad resume.

He was sent from an alien race to learn about the sports culture in various North American cities. Thought everyone already knew this? Sam Cassell was the Michael Jordan of Planet Ladplmvwugf.

Some people in Houston are still mad over the Barkley trade, which is dumb because the team desperately needed a PF to beat the Sonics, and it worked.

They were a game or 2 away from the Finals in 97. I think it paid off. Horry, Hakeem, and Cassell obviously wasn't going to get them far as seen in the 96 playoffs.

Yeah, the window was closing and they needed to go for it. Even in '98 they went .500 during the regular season but led the Jazz in the first round and ended up losing in five games because Barkley got hurt.

He was well know around the league as a shite stirrer and clubhouse lawyer. He chilled out at the end of his career and became popular but he was the kind of guy that said things that didn't need to be said and pissed some people off

Cassell was an important commodity; a complimentary piece that gave good teams a shot at improving. Because the distance between 2nd and 4th in a given conference is often small, and the teams going through there either opening or closing a championship window, Cassell was the beneficiary of being an affordable asset that was a draw to teams that had their windows closing.
