Woodlawn has had good teams but they basically suck too.
Woodlawn finally gets a good coach and they get momentum and he's gone after two years. That's gonna happen a lot. Nobody wants to coach an EBR public school because the EBR public school system is garbage and scary. The good ones are gonna to jump to Zachary/Central/Ascension Parish/Livingston Parish first chance they get.

BRH not having football/basketball/baseball doesn't help

There may have been some momentum compared to the previous year, but that soured quickly due to that playoff game at home against Denham Springs that was very very painful after knocking off this team in the regular season. It is tough to tell if Beard is really a good coach.

Because of the reasons seen above, recruiting and what not.

Super High Schools are the answer.
Less teams with more kids to draw from.
Example:
Denham, Walker & Live Oak kids all at one school.
Yes, I'm dreaming

A pulse and a birth certificate and you can play.
That doesn't seem to hard to stay eligible
The Baton Rouge School Board just recently voted to drop the minimum GPA for sports from 2.0 to 1.5. I think "just have a pulse" is the next step in the progression.

yes it does... it takes kids who would otherwise be at a district school, which makes most of those district schools a class lower than they could be (5A to 4A, etc.)
meanwhile without football, the kids who want to play it won't be there. the only kids who probably could play football for a legit school would be the wrestling team kids and a soccer kicker

Woodlawn hosted Denham Springs in round 1 of the playoffs last year. Woodlawn's crowd filled maybe 1/4 of the seats on the home side. Denham Springs fans filled the visitor's side, then were allowed to take up about 1/4 of the Woodlawn seats since there were plenty of available seats.
How can you build a solid program without fan/community support? Once again, the 1980 lawsuit ruined the community schools in Baton Rouge.

As unfortunate as that was, you make some very good points. It is even sad that Lee High no longer exists, since I attended that school for two years in the 1970's.
Seems like over the past 10 years, it has been U-High, Catholic, Redemptorist & Parkview Baptist that have sent most of the better players to LSU & other Division I schools.

The best players all go to certain schools and it isnt as spread out as it should be

Seems as though in Texas there is a lot of talented kids on the teams as a whole. In LA, it seems as though it's just one or two really good players, and a bunch of borderline varsity players. Except for the private school who recruit all the talent to one team
Houston has more 5A schools than all of Louisiana, but Louisiana produces more D-1 and NFL talent per capita than any other state.

There plenty of reasons that it "looks" bad.
First of all, last week was the jamboree for most teams, which means relatively unorganized games with random match ups in a glorified scrimmage.
Second, the highlights aren't a problem for LA high school football, they're a problem for the local news. The production is terrible.
Third, the population is spread pretty thinly throughout LA. For the most part, the big schools play each other in district, so they're not going to schedule each other in the 40-60% of games that are out of district. That usually leaves lower classification schools left to fill the schedule, hence the mismatches.
Lastly, but certainly not least, public school education in LA is below average at best, and private school is significantly more affordable in LA than most other states. As a result, sports and academic talent tends to concentrate in private schools in LA.
The above average academic public schools tend to have above average football teams for the most part, while the crap public schools usually have terrible football teams as well. This is epescially true outside of BR/NOLA.

Again, spot on. It is hard for little Jimmy or little Jamal to go to football practice when he lives 30 minutes from the school. School and neighborhood pride dwindled after the deseg order.
I remember being about 10 years old in 1980ish or so and my dad took me to a Broadmoor/Tara football game at Memorial Stadium in BR. There were over 20,000 people at the game. The place was packed and overflowing. That was the huge BR rivalry back then. If you lived east of Airline Hwy, you were for Broadmoor and if you lived west of Airline Hwy, then you were for Tara. Neighborhood and school pride were at an all time high. BR hasn't seen anything close to that since then.

Man. With another fall underway I only wish things were like back before this court ruling happened. The whole Tara broad moor rivalry That sounds awesome. I went to Tara grad 10 yrs ago but their team and their games are nothing like that now.

Football used to draw major crowds. Teams had stadiums on campus but none were big enough for the crowd and Memorial and Olympia were used on Thursday and Friday night.

It's appalling. BR is too large of a city to have bad high school football. I mean, it's the state capital after all.
