I assumed posting this question on the Rant would be considered flaming them over there, so I am posting here.

Why do so many LSU fans give him a pass for his repeated screw ups? Got caught multiple times for the same mistake, with seemingly the world in his hands. It appeared that he ruined his future TWICE at one point, but now is getting a 3rd chance.

LSU fans talk so much and praise student athletes that represent LSU in positive ways, notably Sam Montgomery and Russell Shepard recently for doing all the right things and promoting a positive image for LSU.

Now, there are tons of LSU fans saying how they are so proud of Mathieu for getting his life back together and hoping he does well in the NFL.

Question for non-LSU fans: what is your opinion on the situation?

Question for LSU fans: if this same case was duplicated at let's say Alabama, would you be saying that you were glad this player got his life back on track?

Because he is human and didn't actually break the law.. he was stupid and partook in something he struggled with. Yeah he let his team down, but my gosh man. It's life.. It's nice to root for someone to turn their life around for the better.

He gave LSU two incredibly fun seasons.. For that I am extremely grateful to have witnessed. Yeah, I wish it would have been more.. but sorry I appreciate all his time put into LSU.

I don't give the guy a pass. I think he's a selfish prick who thought he became bigger than the team

but I really wouldn't consider hoping a guy can get his life in order and not live the life of a total piece of shite is really giving one a pass.

I asked other day why he gets a pass but those same fans that give him one are quick to bash a player like JR.
Was JR a screw up? Yes but at least he did it on the pro level and never cost LSU, TM7 was selfish and did it at detriment of the team.

Because it's a joke that kids can go out and get shitfaced every night without penalty, but he can lose everything for smoking. The hypocrisy was further expounded with multiple states legalizing marijuana.

I think a lot of people are bitter because they know that had he played last year he could have been a game changer and perhaps put us over the top against UF or Bama.

That being said, I think that most people in general want to see him do well because people are generally forgiving.

Particularly when his mistakes were non violent mistakes. They were stupid no doubt but it's not like he raped someone.

People love stories about redemption.

Non-LSU fan here.

Imagine if you made mistakes in life (I know, that's a tough one) and no one ever hoped for you to turn things around.

Imagine if everyone turned their back on you for screwing up.

LSU fans aren't giving him a pass. They're hoping he gets his shite together because to them, he's family. Do you just say "frick it" regarding the cousin or brother who screws up? Or do you hope he gets his life turned around? If you say the former, then you're probably a terrible human being.

Hoping he does well is giving him a pass. Anyone saying they are not the same thing is lying to themselves because he is an LSU fan.

The hypocrisy here is ridiculous.

If this was a Bama player, ZERO LSU fans would be saying the same thing. They would all be making negative remarks about how he will do it again in the NFL and how he should not even be getting the chance.

These are kids. Yes they can make boneheaded decisions, but you mean to tell me you didn't screw up a time or two when you were his age? It doesn't matter what school the player attends, I'm always glad when kids get their heads on straight and grow-up.

I think most people have given Cam Newton a pass, and his offenses were far worse IMO
