Why do people bash other sports?

Don't really know how to word the question, but I can't think of a sport that I dislike. Every sport has it's positives and negatives. I favor some sports more than others(especially when they are in season), but I can see the beauty/joy in all of them. Hell, sports are just a way of having fun, and I can't think of one that doesn't accomplish that.
It irks me to see people so aggressive in talking shite about an idea. The relentless hate seems so unfounded that I simply laugh it off. I guess it is based on the self-consciousness of some humans that attach themselves to one sport, and take it as a stab to their ego that "their" sport isn't on top in all individuals. They simply can't understand how someone can think otherwise. Dumbfounded, they spout off nonsense to beat their chest. Me, also dumbfounded, cannot understand the notion they think a large population of people are clueless about real entertainment. Stubbornly, the chest thumper doesn't even take the slightest attempt to learn the dynamics/culture that make that sport so special to so many people.
Of course, I bring this up in football season when the bashing is at its max. And don't get me wrong, I like football as much as the next guy, but I don't take it as a badge of honor that I am a football fan. I only say this because the overwhelming majority of people in the south tune out, even mock, all other sports we are blessed with on this planet. Admittedly, this behavior is not exclusive to the southeast; it is found worldwide starting with Europeans unending passion to talk smack about American Football. I merely point out the southeast since that is where most of us reside.
I guess the proper conclusion is that most people don't want to invest too much time watching/learning the many sports going on around the world as they would rather just stick with what is popular in their respective region. Of course, my question is more directed to the more passionate sport fans amongst us that get into pissing contest as to which sport is better. It is slightly understandable that someone not too interested in sports(women) can't get into a sport popular in a separate region. The negative comments then are inherently easy to produce when you are largely ignorant of its appeal.
I guess I will ask this on an individual basis. Why do you not like a certain sport? Have you played the sport? Can you not respect the talent in said sport? Is it just too boring for you to watch on tv?
Now take that sport and ask yourself if you were to go to the premier game of that sport, would you have a newfound respect for said sport?
For example:
NHL- Montreal Canadians vs Toronto Maple Leafs at the Bell Center
Tennis- Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djkovic at Wimbledon
Cricket- India vs Pakistan(intense!)
Soccer- Real Madrid vs Barcelona at Camp Nou
Baseball- Yankees vs Red Sox at Fenway
Basketball- Lakers vs Celtics at the Garden
Rugby- New Zealand vs South Africa
All spectacular fixtures that I am sure would leave a soft spot in all individuals hearts as they exited the gates- regardless if they were a fan of sports or not. Maybe people just like to hate, but I don't see why the hate for a game. "Hate the player, not the game", right? And holy shite did I get carried away with this. Probably about time I hit the sack after this adderall binge.

Good although long winded post. I like to make fun of some sports and sometimes the people that like them, but I can pretty much sit down and watch any sport they put on TV and be entertained.
