Why didn't the Big 12 add SMU and Houston?

Were they after bigger fish and struck out? They seem like they'd both be good fits for the conference and then they could have a championship game.

UT is scared. See SMU in the early '80s and UH after it joined the SWC. Nothing for UT to gain.

Already too many Texas schools in big 12. They need to expand market.

SMU might draw 5000 to a game on a good day and UH might draw 30,000 if they were 10-0 and faced the number one team in the nation at home.

Dallas and Houston sold their souls to the Pros a long time ago. That ship sailed around 1965.

They do need something in the Houston market now that aTm is gone.

They averaged 32,000 (full capacity) when they were good. Better comparison is TCU.

TV markets.

The one he big 12 really should have made a push for was Louisville.

Since Texas runs the world there... what thy say goes. SMU and Houston bring nothing to the table. Colorado State a good choice. Since they failed geography who knows what's next? Central Florida, South Florida, I think if was going to be BYU it would have happened already

Check the last couple of times UT played them, not happening.

I think the big 12 really needs to add Louisville. They are too good at too many sports to be in the American Conference.

ETA: I'm a dumb arse and didn't realize UL isn't in the American Conference anymore

I guess you didn't notice but Louisville joined the ACC and kinda sucks at football now that they're playing slightly better competition every week.
