I always felt that U-Dub team was up there in GOAT defensive squads.

Washington defense was very very good. Too bad they didn't play. I want to say they did not long after that, and they beat the U in the OB, snapping their winning streak.

Washington had the great defense and they could beat you either way on offense

I always thought 1991 Washington would win on a true neutral field. Miami had a VERY spotty bowl record away from the Orange Bowl even when they were at their peak during their dynasty years.

1984- Lost in the Fiesta Bowl to UCLA 39-37
1985- Got destroyed by Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl 35-7
1986- Lost 14-10 to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl
1989- Beat Alabama 33-25 in the Sugar Bowl
1990- Annihilated Texas 46-3 in the Cotton Bowl
1992- Smashed by Alabama 34-13 in the Sugar Bowl
1993- Demolished by Arizona 29-0 in the Fiesta Bowl

That's a 2-5 record away from the Orange Bowl and none of the teams they lost to was as good as that Washington team. I would take the Huskies on a neutral field without thinking twice.

washington had a ferocious defense themselves ... they didn't get as much press ... steve eatman for the folks approaching 50 ... everybody says the U because it's ... the U ... but the huskies were formidable, and bama later proved the U wasn't invincible ...

Washington had the better head coach also. The dual QB who both started in the NFL and pretty damn good RB's. More I think about this, Washington would beat them handily on a neutral field.

they had a TD drive aided by a missed call on a fumble by one of their RB's. Long before booth reviews and challenges.

it really is crazy how much the game has changed.

you think the refs are bad now? No. Not nearly as bad.

the Iron Bowl that year was also awful for both schools. Refs missed a lot in that game.

I doubt anybody would have the patience to watch it but some of those games are available on Youtube.

but Miami's run D was overwhelming that year (1989)

they were the better squad no doubt

The early 90's were a good time to be in Seattle in a lot of ways.

Bench, absolutely correct. Miami always fell arse backwards into NC games in their own house. Great point bro. Well done :)

Going with Washington. The U barely beat a unranked BC team.
