Was it Dan Reeves and his 80s Broncos and their 3 Super Bowl losses?

Or was it Marty Schotennheimer and his 90s Chiefs?

Personally I got to go with Marty. Those Chiefs teams were loaded especially on Defense with Derrick Thomas, Neil Smith and Deron Cherry. Christian Okoye running the ball. Still remember them choking to the Colts and those missed field goals and also the game he started Elvis Grbac over Rich Gannon against the Broncos. And especially considering how he choked at another AFC West team with LT and the Chargers. And who can forget his Browns teams in the 80s.

Reeves at least got to the Super Bowl at which point it can be a crap shoot. Heck he even got the Falcons to the Super Bowl. He's more of a Mark Levy type.

It's gotta be Schottenheimer. Elway willed those Broncos teams to the Super Bowl in the 80's they were always gonna be a an underdog to the NFC champions.

Schotty's Chargers team had no excuse not to make the Super Bowl the year they lost to the Patriots.

And look at their records in the playoffs Marty was 5-13 and Reeves was 11-9. At least Reeves got to the big game.

His Chargers team choked more than anyone not named the Vikings.

That AFC 2007 divisional game against the Pats was another total collapse and choke by his teams late. I've never seen a team give a game away more than the Chargers. (Again, except for maybe the Vikings against the Falcons.)

Beaten three times by Reeves' Broncos. I think that pretty much gives away the answer.

Choked? Didn't they get blown out each time?

Marty and it's not even close. Those Broncos teams actually overachieved. They had very little talent outside of Elway and took advantage of a very weak AFC. Think LeBron with the Cavs in the late 2000s.

Denver was beaten convincingly in the first 4 Super Bowls they were in.

Even though Marty Ball was a choker, I bet San Deigo wishes they had kept him in hindsight.

I think some people here may not understand the meaning of "choke"

Supercoach, Pretty Boy and the undefeated Patriots losing to a mediocre Giants team was a choke

Reeves and the RB-less Broncos getting creamed in the SB is not a choke. They simply weren't good enough.

its crazy how both of those losses came to Denver. One on "The Drive" and then the other when Ernest Byner fumbled inside the 10 yard line.. might have even been inside the 5 yard line.

yeah, but Neil Smith had become a Denver Bronco by 1997 when Denver upset KC in the playoffs. I think the Chiefs were still one of the best defenses that year anyway though. Had to have been cause I think they were the #1 seed that year but Denver knocked them out in the divisional round???

Were any those Denver teams actually favored?
How about Marty's 06 Chargers team that went 14-2 (only losing by a combined 6 points to playoff teams on the road) and had 11 Pro Bowlers yet they didn't even a playoff game.

"John Elway dragged those 3 teams to the Super Bowl"

yes he did.

Reeves had a gameplan...use his D to try and keep it close and John will win it on his own in the 4th quarter with a couple of final TD drives.

That was his coaching philosophy. Reeves didn't choke, he got lucky having a Top 3 QB of all-time.

When Reeves took the Broncos to the Super Bowl the only crap shoot was which NFC team was going to kick his arse.

39-20 to the Giants
42-10 to the Skins
55-10 to the 49ers

Byner's fumble was at the 2.

Cleveland lost three AFCCGs to Denver in four years from 86-89. Schottenheimer had some shite luck in the playoffs with Cleveland and Kansas City. That 2006 Chargers team just flat out gagged against New England.

Also Nate Kaeding forgetting how to kick against the Jets.

I feel bad for Marty because it's not like his teams weren't in position to win some of those playoff games. His players (and like you said, shite luck) doomed him at the worst moments.

On the other hand, Reeves' teams weren't even competitive in Super Bowls. However, the NFC was clearly superior when he was in Denver and Marty's Browns probably would've been clobbered too.

I'm almost hesitant to call either one a choker, but if I had to choose one, I'd say Reeves only because he repeatedly looked overwhelmed under the spotlight of the Super Bowl.

Denver was just over matched. They didn't choke.

That's why I said I'm hesitant to call either one a choker and said the NFC was clearly better in those days.
