When will the next major IAAF Wold Record be set?

There has not been a record set in a 'major" sprint event since Merritt set the 110 Hurdle record in 2012.
Has the human evolved past the point of gaining speed?
Bolt set the 100 and 200 record in 2009 at the WC. I am not sure if the tracks have slowed down some, if it is just the human body can not go any faster, or a combination of both.
For women the 100 and 200 were set by Flo-Jo in 88 at Us Trials and Olympics. The only recent record was the 1500 set in 2015 in Monaco.

I wish bolt wouldn't have showboated at the end of the 100 in 2008. I think it's going to be a long time before another freak of nature comes along like him.

More so that it's way more difficult to dope with impunity.
You can still dope (see Russia), but its way harder to pump yourself completely full of anabolic steroids or EPO and not get caught. The doping is more on the margins.

I agree. It's mostly microdosing, at least among the Americna athletes.
It's why a lot of the Eastern Bloc and Flo Jo records are untouchable. LaShawn Merritt is coasting on the benefits of his previous use and he is still .45 off the (generally perceived) clean 43.2 of Michael Johnson.
Ashton Eaton could break his own world record, but I'm not sure if that counts.

Look at the womens 10000 world record. Just a complete joke.

Damn this HS kid just ran a 20.06 and shut it down 50 m left
Gatlin just ran a 20.32 in his first 200 of his year. That's impressive.

Bolt's gping to be hard to top, its a shame he didnt max out his records. Even with better training and nutrition sprinters his height are basically unheard of.

I don't think Bolt or any of the Jamacians are "clean"
Yes they pass test but so did the Russians, Chinese, and Americans.
It's no accident the 5 of top 10 times ever are by Jamaicans within 10 years. It's an unpopular opinion, but JADCO just paid off WADA to get a certification.

I get the doping thing for distance, but what would really help in sprints? Traditional roids for burst?

Increases the Lactate threshold and recovery. That's only thing I can think of.
I mean the more oxygen to your muscles and ATP not burning the Phosphate keeps you faster for a meet.

There is a clear trend with good fit (R-squared = 0.79) with a decreasing trend of 0.0085 seconds per year.
Take that for what it's worth, but the trend is clear; it's just too small to notice it from year to year. It only becomes salient when looking at it by decade but just barely.
I think we will continue to make small increments like we have for the last 40 years.

Pretty much across the board they are using IGF-1 LR3. Very effective and very difficult to detect unless a user is tested within a short time after using the drug.
Two major coaches/agents have been arrested on doping violations in the past month--Jama Aden in Spain and Federico Rosa in Kenya. Aden's training group has been particularly blatant with their doping--three of his athletes broke world records in one indoor meet this year, Dibaba broke the dirty-as-hell Chinese 1500m WR last year, Makhloufi made the 1500m field in London look like JV runners in 2012, oh, and he actually had an athlete test positive. Fortunately, Aden was found with drugs in syringes. The hope is that anti-doping agencies will be able to develop tests for whatever the new gear he has been using is.
And Flo Jo's 100m record is such a farce. In addition to being a blatant cheat, her 10.49 in Indianapolis was certainly wind-aided:

The best story of the meet starts tonight.
Aries Merritt begins his "comeback" 9 months after a kidney transplant.

Merritt finishes in 3rd in his heat but advanced.
