I barely notice MNF, but SNF is always a huge deal. When did that change? When it went to ESPN?

Network vs Cable

Also I think Redzone has something to do with it. Everyone watches Redzone all day, but Sunday Night is the first game you're forced to watch in its entirety.

When Monday night moved to ESPN. And SNF usually gets the best or highest profile game of the weekend. MNF matchups are garbage

Better games.

It really is this more than anything, particularly when they start doing flex scheduling.

Monday Night seems to have some shitty match ups, particularly in the second half of the season.

When was MNF ever considered better/more prestigious than Sunday?

I'm 28 and I've always though SNF was the premier game.

When I was in grade school, I always thought MNF was the shite, but mainly because I thought it was so cool that football was on all weekend and there was still a game to look forward to all day Monday. I got to stay up late on a school night also. I rarely watch MNF now, if ever.

TNF takes away the prestige of week night game like MNF as well.

I think SNF gets first choice of games plus MNF is kind of like a trophy award where every team gets shown at least once.

And SNF can flex and switch games later in the season to get more playoff important matchups and MNF is pretty set.

Although there is normally a sickening amount of NFC East games on SNF

When ESPN took over the rights around 2006 ish...it's an inferior broadcast with an inferior match ups. Obviously network is held in higher regards than cable, but it's deeperthan that.

When NBC got SNF, the old MNF package of games was moved to NBC...which means the best games of the week and basically the entire crew from ABC left Disney and went to NBC.

Al Michaels was the lone guy left for ESPN/ABC because his contract was not up. He didn't want to go to an inferior broadcast on MNF and was essentially 'traded' to NBC for some money and an old cartoon character Disney lost the rights to Universal Studios 50+yrs ago.

The NFL also wants NBC SNF to be THE weekly showcase of their product. They actually pay way less than ESPN and have playoff games, Super Bowls, and flex games
Which ESPN does not.

So basically the old ESPN Sunday night game (before NBC took over) is now the MNF package ESPN has currently..that's why a lot of the games are shitty match ups. And the classic MNF package (Cosell, Gifford, Michaels, etc) of premier games and premier crew are now owned and broadcast by NBC.

This was all detailed in The ESPN book 'Those Guys Have All The Fun'. Might be a little hard to follow and pretty inside baseball stuff but that kind of stuff always fascinated me.
