When did the Orange Bowl become so boring?

It was one of my favorites growing up, and it had arguably the biggest significance. I remember Miami/Nebraska and LSU/Nebraska vividly. Clemson, Colorado and FSU all won their first NCs there (I believe). The Tom Osborne Nebraska dynasty run in the mid 90s began there.

These days, it's still BCS/New Year's Six, but I can't even remember an interesting matchup.

FSU/Northern Illinois
WVU dropping 70 on Clemson
Virginia Tech/Cincinnati
Virginia Tech/Kansas :yack:
Iowa/Georgia Tech :yack:
Louisville/Wake Forest :yack: :yack:

Even their BCSCGs have been generally horrible or unmemorable.

Why? The biggest reason is obviously the breakup of the Big 8 and the tie-in, along with the Big 12 tie-in to the Fiesta Bowl.

What else? Why do they always seem to get the shittiest possible matchup?

stub hub always offering tickets for 3 dollars ruined their reputation. You would think tickets that cheap and even the locals would go catch the game.

A lot of things factored in but that bowl really got hit when they decided we need 5 bcs games.

So boring they are making up things to keep it close.

When it got tied to the ACC, which is usually awful.

Does that stadium fill to capacity for anything? I knew U Miami games were shite, but the last two home Dolphins games I noticed were terrible too, and now this.

ACC + At Large (usually the last pick - or so it seemed) = Craptacular ...

Even now post-BCS, this matchup is meh. On paper at least, the Peach Bowl got a better matchup between two teams ranked higher than the Orange Bowl's best team (or beat them outright).

And for fans who care, they used to have the best half-time show. Now they don't even let us see the half-time shows, it's all about hyping the BIG games tomorrow.

But like I said too, even the National Championship games they pulled were 75 percent awful. They pulled arguably the two worst games, period, in USC/Oklahoma and Alabama/Notre Dame (with apologies to Miami/Nebraska). FSU/Oklahoma was a completely boring and unmemorable game that was out of reach for Florida State the moment Oklahoma scored. Florida/Oklahoma was a good game, but that was about it.

This is a really good match up and a good game.

Much better than watching Ole Miss getting their teeth kicked in.

Clemson and OSU game was a good game with two explosive offenses that was decided in the finals minutes of the game.

as others said, when they added another bcs game, when they decided to add a zillion bowl games, when the big 8 went away, etc ...

the games in the last 70s and early/mid 80s were great ... clemson won a nc in the orange ... was always packed with fans ...

some things in college ball have changed for the better, but the bowl games, imo, have digressed a bit in many ways ...
