If you want an excellent book that will make you think about sports, I recommend 'Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We Are Afraid to Talk About It' -- it's getting hard to find, but it raises real questions about the underlying assumptions involved in race, sports, and how we organize competition.

good call. Read that one a while back and it's certainly worth the read.

Beat me to it, I read the book after watching the movie, and it's an amazing story.

I assume you mean The Boys of Summer, by Roger Kahn.

It is really good.

I'm beginning to lose all the confidence I had in Coach Conroy, what about you?

The greatest baseball book I've ever read was The Glory of Their Times.

Then try A Game of Brawl and/or Rowdy Richard.
