2005 Illinois had a pretty great one with Indianapolis, Chicago, and St Louis.

09 Michigan State has Minneapolis Indy and Detroit I believe

03 Syracuse had Boston and Albany in the regional before NOLA for the final 4, pretty favorable for a 4 seed or whatever they where

To be fair, LSU played Georgia Tech and Kentucky in Atlanta. While close for Tiger fans, it was basically two road games. (while fully admitting the unfair advantage of the first two round games)

Those two had to win a combined 5 games before they played LSU in Atlanta, while Tigers got #6 Purdue & #3 Memphis on their home court.

seems like they do a better job now with where they put their regionals. UCLA never went east of phoenix until the final four in 06, 07, and 08

Post 9-11 they try to keep the good teams as close to home as possible.

Pre 9-11 they had the awesome sub-regional tournaments where everyone in a group played in the same location.
