What's going on with Dallas Keuchel?

So I haven't watched the Astros as much as i hoped but just looking through player stats, you can see keuchel has an ERA over 5. Now his FIP is decently lower and his xFIP is lower than that but still, what has happened to cause him giving up more runs? Is it just bad luck? His babip and hr/fb% are all career highs and his lob% is a career low for him. His velo is down but his k%-bb% is the second highest of his career. So has this year just been unlucky? Or is his drop in velo cause for concern?

He's missing his spots.

He's been unlucky but he's definitely regressed as well. With the kind of stuff he has he needs to be flawless spotting pitches to have the kind of year he did last year. He's been the opposite of that this year, missing early in counts and having to work from behind when he inevitably gets hit

I think he's still a solid starter but he's not the ace he looked like last year

The drop in velo is a little concerning as well and doesn't help. Maybe caused by the huge workload last year

Boom said Clutch City only applies to the Rox instead of all of Houston so Dallas gave up.

it's interesting that he's still striking people out even with the fact that he apparently isn't hitting his spots, never had dominant stuff, and has a velo that's down

He doesn't have ace stuff. Hard to run him out there and expect to dominate every game like that

Yeah I don't understand it honestly. I think he normalizes down to an ERA in the low 4s this year or so. He's probably mid to high 3 ERA type guy who should be durable and eat innings which is still really valuable. The Astros need a true front line guy though I think

This.

Not getting the calls he was last year when he's working outside either.

Out of his five years in the league, three of those years he had +5.00 ERA's with the two before this one being great with a sub 3.00's.

A lot of his starts he's looked pretty good for most the game and then he would have a terrible inning late in the game and give up like 4 runs.

He's just not as good this year. A part of me thinks it may be a little bit of arm fatigue carrying over from last year but who knows.

This too, especially recently. He's looked much sharper overall in his last few starts then has a bad 6th or 7th inning.

Look at Fister. He was way better in Detroit.

Even better in Washington.

Was up for the Cy Young his first year there.
