What other schools could get away with what UNC evidently has?

It is amazing to me that the hammer never did fall.

Speaking of the academic fraud, of course.

Nah, they'd give us the death penalty again and cut down a couple of oak trees on campus to send a message.

Very few schools. I'm not even sure how Roy Williams is still allowed to coach.

I'd bet everything I own that most major FB and BB programs in the country participate in similar types of activities to some degree. I was a tutor for athletes at A&M and some of the junk courses and extra credit assignments were laughable.

Seriously, I used to say the two things that you couldn't frick with, the two things that separated college and pro sports, were academics and pay. Don't phony up the grades, and don't pay the players. Now, everyone thinks players should get paid, and one-and-dones laugh at the idea of going to class.

Hell, there's no difference anymore.

This.

Academic centers for student athletes exist for 2 reasons. Keeps everything very tidy under one roof usually with an Asst or Assoc AD in charge and they help in recruiting the family/diploma angle.

Of course its true. The NCAA investigation just depends on who the NCAA picks to investigate randomly, just like the USC thing. Then the NCAA has to make that school the "example school".

Oklahoma basketball giving hundreds to each player in the battle for Atlantis tourney last year would be a candidate. The ncaa letting the buckeye players play in the bowl game vs R-Kansas still leads the pack for me.

The first school that comes to mind for me is Ohio State. They have over 500,000 living alumni plus a ton of other fans all over the state and throughout the country.

Ohio State. They have over 500,000 living alumni plus they have a big foothold in two major metropolitan areas

That means nothing - Penn State has "living" alumni pegged at 557,000 and the largest dues paying alumni in the nation and that got them a quick investigation and unprecedented ban...

Well, now overturned...so maybe it helps in the appeals process...but this we're too big and powerful is overplayed...sometimes when you're too powerful you are a target...look at USC. And look at tOSU and tattoo case. Much ado about nothing.

NCAA has never really cared about academic integrity because they acknowledge its a joke....they care about competitive advantage.... And they are so short-sighted they fail to realize that fake classes is akin to improper benefits from anybody even total outsiders of the program like the USC case vs. Institutional trickery in the UNC case. But that's just academic...

It really is fricked up when you think about it. College sports are such a sham in many respects.

Texas had a way of doing it in the 1970's--they had one of their law professors on the investigation committee.

Any time another school started threatening their status (A&M, SMU), suddenly the NCAA would announce an investigation which would always turn out bad. If the school "knew their place" (Rice), nothing ever happened.

Technically UNC is still "under investigation". What happens if they win the title, then are found guilty of academic fraud?

Do they have to give up the title?

EDIT: "Guilty" is obviously a strange term because the school came out in front and said women's basketball and the soccer team were "guilty", which pushed back the investigation further until after the Men's Basketball team's season was over

It would depend on what punishment was handed out, because the NCAA does whatever it wants there too
