What motivation do NFL front office personnel have to leak to journalists?

Why do GMs leak accurate info to Schefter and other sports journalists? I understand why they would leak false info(to create smokescreen) But wouldn't you want to be as secretive as possible when it comes to your personnel moves?

Smoke screens, future information, help in the media during crisis

Then sometimes the "team" leak was just some dude going rouge to advance his career

How do you think these guys get praise and promotion up the ranks and how to guys keep their job longer than they should ? A big part is helped by the media being on your side and greasing the right wheels by giving away information

Why would GMs tell agents that their team is interested in picking a player in the draft?

Agents claiming a certain team is showing a lot of interest in a player they represent.

You think there would be near as must interest in sports without the "drama?" Without leaks fans would know nothing and the NFL and other sports wouldn't be able to hold fans for 7 days of the week during the season much less the rest of the year like they do.

It's all about stirring up interest.
