What is it with ESPN's infatuation with Ben Simmons?

Had no idea who the kid was until they broke into a game I was watching, early in the season, to keep giving updates on his stats. The first update he had like 7 pts. Just went on from there wit cinstant updates. Had no idea who he was, never heard of him. I check ESPN today to look for some highlights last night and the first video was "Watch every point Ben Simmons scored" from last night's game. So why are they pumping this kid up like he's the next Kobe or Lebron? Setting him up for big time failure IMO. I realize, being on the TD board, I'm going to get alot of biased opinions. I'll sift through those to get to honest opinions. Thanks.

He is averaging 20, 13 and 5. Find a college freshman that has done that recently.

No.. He averaged more points and maybe even more rebounds but not the assists

In terms of LeBron, statistics say otherwise.

Seriously thought all Simmons needs is more confidence in his shot, it's not broken

Yep. averaging 20, 13 and 5 is unheard of. It is a combination that is not often seen. And to top it off it is a 6'10" guy who is 18 years old. No clue why this is confusing to the OP and others

why take a 15 footer when you can't be stopped getting to the basket unless the foul?

It's not a confidence thing, he has said it himself. He prefers taking it to the basket, which is exactly what he should be doing.

If teams give you 5 ft of space h have to knock it down and in the nba he won't get to the rim as easy as he does now

Simmons has been great, but I think Beasley still had a better freshman year. Beasley averaged 26 and 12 while shooting 38 percent from threes, 53 percent overall and 77 percent from the line. He was way better from three than Simmons who doesn't even shoot them, averaged more points and about the same number of rebounds. Simmons does have a lot of assists, but is also probably playing with a much better supporting cast than Beasley.

Simmons would have 7,000 assists if Blakeney could hit an open shot
