He'd be the very definition of a political refugee. He is speaking out against his country moving towards being an Islamic law based dictatorship. He is exactly the kind of person we should be giving asylum to b/c his quasi celebrity status brings more attention to what is happening in Turkey. Of course we probably won't do that considering Erdogan's thugs were allowed to beat peaceful protestors on US soil w/so much as a slap on the wrist from the current admin.

Not convincing. The ball is in Romania's court. If he was in the states with a voided passport then it's a different story.
The US State dept should focus on American interests. This has none.

On the list of people we should risk political capital in the Middle East an NBA player who has zero schooling past high school being a dumbass and talking geopolitics is at the bottom. The dude could have gotten/may still get his family killed and then on top of that rather then keeping his arse put he went abroad?

Yeah Im willing to expend absolute zero cash real or figurative on that.

But hey we'll knowingly hire the guy working as a secret foreign agent, lobbying for this corrupt, authoritarian government, and make him the National Security Advisor.

Can't waste that political capital though.

ISLAM IS TERRIBLE!! WHERE ARE ALL THE MODERATE MUSLIMS SPEAKING OUT AGAINST RADICALISM?

Prominent liberal Muslim speaks out against Muslim extremism and gets in trouble....

WHAT AN IDIOT!! SHOULDNT TALK OUT AGAINST EXTREMISTS WHEN YOU KNOW THAT'LL CAUSE PROBLEMS! NOT EVEN AMERICAN LET THE EXTREMISTS KILL HIM!

Interesting dichotomy of viewpoints there

And there's the problem with the left. Literally nobody has said that. Instead of trying to put words in people's mouths, maybe take a step back and say hey, THIS is what a fascist govt looks like. Trump hasn't done anything close to this and he's considered the devil. Maybe get a little perspective. Or just keep being ignorant, it's up to you.

Hilariously retarded. Kanter has already paid more in taxes to the US government than the vast majority of Americans will in their lifetimes.

He's also been incredibly selfish considering he has family still in turkey. They could find themselves at the business end of a machete real quick

Well Trump knowingly hired a foreign agent lobbying for that "fascist" government to work as his National Security Advisor.

I was exaggerating, hence the all caps. There's the problem with everyone though. Why do you assume I'm "the left?" My point is based on logic. And there are numerous people in this thread essentially saying he deserves whatever is coming to him for being stupid.

"Beint stupid" is speaking out against a growing radical Muslim theocracy, which is I thought what we wanted people to do?

Kanter's dad has been outspoken against Enes' political views.

quote:

In August, Kanter’s father, Mehmet, publicly condemned his son’s political views, writing a letter published by Turkish media claiming his son had been hypnotized by Mr. Gulen. “With a feeling of shame I apologize to our president and the Turkish people for having such a son,” Mehmet Kanter wrote.

His dad is a molecular scientist or some shite in Istanbul
