1. Stay pat, they just won the title
2. Trade him for a big name (melo, someone else)
3. Trade him for assets like younger guys with a specific purpose

Holy shite. GS is the only team that Kevin Love is rendered a role player against. They should keep him and easily repeat. Nothing they can get for him will make them better next year, unless Boston is stupid.

Don't even play out the season, no need to.

He wasn't as bad as he looked in the GS series. But the reality is that he still isn't a great fit, most specifically because he's not the best PF on the team. Lebron is, and that's probably the position Lebron needs to play from here on out. Love's problem is you can't use him anywhere else. He's too small to play C and not athletic enough to play SF.

Also, Love's a rhythm shooter. Unless he gets off to a great start, his game can go in the tank if he doesn't get a lot of touches to get himself going. On this team, again just not a great fit when you have Kyrie and Lebron.

For his price tag, he's more than what they need.

Trade him. Sign Ryan Anderson he can space the floor for them and be a great 3rd scoring option. Get their own version of Iggy. LeBron and Kyrie dominate the ball they need more floor spacers. Thompson protects the paint and cleans the glass and is content with getting garbage buckets. JR is adequate for them at the 2. Other than that they're set. They should be able to acquire players or picks that can get them a good scoring option off the bench and a glue guy defender content with doing the dirty work.

He was their best rebounder and wasn't he their best 3 point shooter this year? It's a tough situation, for sure.

Sure, just saying you don't need a sledgehammer to kill a fly.

Having him as the #3 option is an inefficient use of salary. He's worth more to another team where he can go back to being that 25/12 guy. I'd go so far as to say he's a bargain to a lot of other teams with the salary cap going up.

Love has his flaws, but he was really good at times for these Cavs. The problem is that the majority of this board didn't start watching him play until the Finals.

I do hate Love as a defender, but you can work around it.

did you even watch the playoffs. They don't need another spot up shooter. They need a real PF that can rebound and play D

I think he's never going to be a go-to guy in the playoffs for them, but that's a nice piece to have if you want to sit LeBron for like 10-20 games. Isn't he on a five year deal? Maybe that salary won't seem so bad when the cap goes up.

They can't sign anyone w/o bird rights besides exceptions, which I presume they'll use on replacing RJ.

So it's really can they trade him something better. I doubt it. His presence allows LeBron to coast reg season and playoffs. Provides spacing and a guy they can run the offense through at times. Also one of the few guys on that team that knows what an entry pass is.

Needs to work on getting stronger and cutting out the ridiculous cross court passes. But the key in today's NBA is being versatile. A guy like Batum would help them more against the Warriors, but may not do much in some other match ups.

Spin off, who would be a better fit than Love?

I started with the obvious. KAT, AD, Green. You're not getting them.

The next tier I think are the Maybes. I came up with Griffin, Aldridge, Millsaps. Aldridge and Griffin don't provide as much spacing. Also would be pretty questionable in terms of ego. Millsaps I could buy with getting another piece to make the contracts work. But I don't see how you convince Atl to build a team around Love.

That leaves Boston throwing in some package. It could be a net positive, buts a pretty big gamble to take.

Worked out pretty well for the Cavs, so they'll try to keep him.

I don't agree with looking at it as if you have to get something "better." As far as a single asset you aren't going to get better. That doesn't mean you can't optimize your current team. I think you can find more players that give you better value by deepening the roster and collectively approximating his contributions.

When all three are rolling this team is nearly unbeatable. But going back to Love's game, he's a rhythm shooter and there's really no telling when he's going to be on. He, more than Kyrie or Lebron, suffers when he's not the focal point.

Hell, maybe he wants to go back to being the focal point. No one has mentioned that possibility.

If the Boston package could include Buddy Hield with the #3 pick the cavs should jump on that in a heartbeat

Considering they can't sign anyone, these players have to come in the deal. The best idea I have off the top of my head is some package involving Gallo. He'd be an awesome fit and you could get a second valuable piece, but considering his injury history that's not a risk a defending champ takes.

I forgot about Carmelo. Don't think that's a possibility, but I'd do that in a heart beat.
