re: Westbrook's 2014-15 season was more impressive than Oscar's triple double season

So you are going to transport Westbrook into an era but let him keep all the methods, rules, hotels, etc from now?
I'm saying he wouldn't struggle either way. IDGAF which rules.
I hate era comparisons as well, but some sports fans' obstinacy in assuming the bigger/stronger/faster athletes of today wouldn't be as good in an earlier era is, frankly, patently absurd.

I think strategy is the biggest thing lost in translation when it comes to comparing eras and players

Can you imagine if LeBron walked into the gym back when it was all white dudes playing?

and playing 44 minutes would be harder on the body.

Agreed.
It's a simple game at the end of the day: find a way to put the ball in the hoop as often as possible. Players just found the best ways to do it in their particular eras.

It doesn't even have to be LeBron, is what I'm getting at.
I'm saying role players in today's NBA would be more and more formidable the further back you go. It's just a fact.

Oh I'm not disagreeing. Just thought LeBron's stature against them was a funny image

They wouldn't know what to do with him

Jordan was a terrible three point shooter in 1987. If he shot MORE threes (like Kobe in 2006), Jordan's ppg would have decreased dramatically - so I guess your point is Kobe was better?

Russ' shot selection is over scrutinized.
It's really not. When you're an elite player that does basically everything well, any shortcoming in your game will be fairly scrutinized. Kobe is one of the greatest players ever, but the main difference between him and MJ was shot selection. MJ's technique was flawless when it came to getting to his spots and taking high-percentage shots. Kobe always had an issue with taking long twos and too many threes. I see similar shortcomings in Westbrook's game.

Yes he should probably not take many of those no-pass pull up treys.
Those are low-percentage shots, and unless you want to play at a crazy pace, they're unnecessary shots. I'd be okay with those shots under two scenarios: 1. Heat check. 2. Trying to get a 2 for 1 at the end of a quarter
quote:
But a lot of the threes he takes is on a busted possession with the shot clock winding down.
People that watch basketball know that these shots happen and don't factor them into the scrutiny. I don't think anyone is basing their scrutiny off of raw stats, but the eyeball test from actually watching OKC's games.

Any time he drives to the basket or pulls up around the free throw line it's a good shot.
Absolutely. He's deadly in the paint and inside the arc.
