Its really not that hard once you get the timing down (which can be after 2-3 consistent pitches)

one off speed pitch, or a little fastball movement and you can throw that shite out the window.

Then you start swinging at what you hope you see.

It's just so so fricking hard.

Fastest I have ever hit off of was 91 mph by a kid that went on to play at Ok St. Best pitcher I ever faced was a lefty who threw 89 with 5 pitches. 2 seam, 4 seam, slider, curve, change. Standing in the box was like playing Russian roulette.

Like others have said, if a guy is throwing straight heat, it's not that bad. You get used to it, especially if you grew up facing the kids throwing the hardest stuff your whole life.

It's so hard to even make contact much less put it in play where people can't get to it! BTW Tell Tuffy I said hello, he knows me as AJ.

I had Ron Darling put a tailing fastball of my elbow in Cape Cod...I was starting to swing...looked like a strike, never thought it would move. He was league MVP though. Hitting the ball was never that hard. Really squaring up the ball and driving it in play and down was hard!

You can't possibly be a worse hitter than my boy Ben Sheets.

Not possible.

I am friends with a guy who was a pitcher in the Major leagues for number of years (John Thomson)...when he was in the minors I asked if I could just stand in the box and have him throw a fast ball and let me see what it looks like. he threw like 93-94. I could not see the ball.

its super human how guys can hit a ball that comes that fast

That is something most don't get...eyesight is so important in Baseball along with hand/eye coord. and the ability to chew and scratch at the same time

Got a link to this? As an ophthalmologist, I find it hard to believe that's the "average" vision in the majors. I don't doubt that some players have that type of vision, but not the average player.

ETA: I just googled and found an article that tested 300 players in the Dodgers system over the course of several years in the 90s, and they quoted an average vision of 20/13. That's impressive. I stand corrected.

Uggla had 20/30 and had some of the worst in the majors. After LASIK, it is now 20/15.

Mark Reynolds probably has 20/200, so that skews the average.
