...and it begins with their field

Hammons Field Capacity: 8,000

This place looks like a top tier SEC facility. It has 8,000 seats, 28 luxury suites, five party decks, six food and beverage outlets, a souvenir shop and a club lounge.

That's the same size as Carolina Stadium, only with more suites. It has, in fact, one more suite than Alex Box Stadium.

The crowd was rocking! The announced attendance for the Bears win over Iowa to sweep their regional was 5,656.

I'm guessing the Bears are the reason Mizzou isn't better at baseball.

I think it looks more like a Double A field than anything.

Yeah, 'cause they share the field with the Cardinals AA farm team...

Hammons Field became home to the Missouri State Bears baseball team in 2004. The facility was built by Missouri State alumnus John Q. Hammons.

Was built for the Cardinals not for SMS. We were playing at PCP and had to negotiate a lease. It was also part of the redevelopment. It didn't hurt the previous team went to CWS.

Is that why Missouri State is playing at Fayetteville despite being the 8th seed?

Yup. It doesn't matter though. Sms has played there (Arkansas) and won this year and in previous NCAA tournaments etc. The S Cards take precedent on their field.

It's their field. It's like the Sugar Bowl on Sunday. NFL takes precedence.

So the guy that built the field, Hammons, owns the Cardinals?

No he owns hotels and resorts he is from Springfield. He wanted more business to his things. So he helped finance a ballpark. But he negotiated with the Cards to move the AA team allow SMS use the field dirt cheap.

No, he was some kind of hotel magnate. And I think he died a few years ago actually.

2013 I think.

He and Johnny Morris could have owned all of Missouri if they had ever partnered.

No, but he basically owns all of Springfield.

And as others have said, Hammons is awesome, but it's not really MSU's field. They do have great chetzel dogs though.

Here is my off the wall theory about Missouri State baseball I want to see if anyone that is closer to the program can shed some light on it.

Baseball is loved in the state of Louisiana, a lot of the reason for that is LSU's dominance in since the 90's. The baseball culture in the state helps to breed pretty good players.

Has the success of the St Louis Cardinals created a similar baseball culture for the state of Missouri? I'll hang up and listen.

No guttin and Rowe built a winner, the only consistent winner for a long time. There has only been 2 coaches in program history.

They also built it with small town kids and kids that people in SGF could relate with.

Basketball has a NC in 50's
Baseball has been to NCAA Tournament every decade it's existed.

A more important question would be, WTF are "chetzel dogs"?
