He was committed to Bama at one point. QBs transferring at the first sign of being beat out is an epidemic. The other 2015 QB Sam Darnold was outperforming him apparently. If it's a system thing, it's not like there was a sudden change after he signed. He dropped in the rankings, but I believe he was 247s top overall player at one point. Whole thing seems odd to me.

Reading the thread you linked, it seems he was getting outplayed and buried, plus his family sees the whole thing as a business and will pull the cord and go somewhere else at the first sign of trouble in paradise.

Having the athlete and family take the "it's a business" approach is either "good for the gander" or "what's wrong with America", depending on your perspective, I guess.

I wonder where he ends up now. If it's a "business" decision, does he go to a school where he can start in 2016? If I'm a lower power 5 team, I would be all over him. It seems like his dad had a lot to do with the decision.

I don't really have a problem with it. If you went to work and were told, "Hey Teddy, we hired two of ya'all, but we're going with the other guy on the promotion. By the way, this will permanently scar your career and you will never go any further than this ever since no one will see you ability to produce."

Outside of a chance injury or MAYBE taking over when someone else's eligibility is over, who in their right mind would take that deal? Its illogical.

Probably can see the writing on the wall. He'll probably end up at some small CA college and put up big numbers. Then be forgotten.

There are very few examples of players making the NFL after being beat out by a QB in their class as freshman. I don't really blame him. If it's being a pussy to resurrect your NFL chances, so be it. The Flynn/Russell scenario is super rare, but this board seems to think it's common.

But he knew he was at least two years from starting when he signed. That's a lot of time to improve and win the job. If immediate playing time was what he sought, USC made no sense. Darnold outplaying him in fall camp now doesn't mean he was destined to start over Town eventually. It seems like an impulsive decision to me and that's the reason I question it. Almost nothing changed from the time he signed other than the other QB in the class had a very early edge. I get a guy like Rettig transferring when he did because enough time passed to make an informed decision. USC is great at developing quarterbacks too.

USC has had horrible luck with St. Bonaventure and Orange Luthran players.

No surprise. AT best, he would be starting as a nunior if he red-shirted this year. Max Browne will take over for two years after Kessler and he was having trouble even being 3rd string. Opens up another schollie en route to a full 85 players

I believe his thinking was that he would redshirt this year, then take over as the starter next year. The only problem is Max Browne is really coming on now, even to the point that I can see him playing this year. Town now sees that it'll be a 3 year waiting period before he even gets a chance to start.

No, it's more like getting a new job, then in your first two weeks there, they name a new manager of your department. You then leave after only working there for two months. It's a red flag.
