Urban's OCs have been the key to his offensive success

If people remember, after the 2008 NC by UF, Mullen left for MSU and Addazio was promoted to OC under Meyer at UF. While UF did go 12-0 in the regular season, people forget how awful (relatively speaking) UF's offense became that year ultimately leading to their destruction at the hands of Bama in the SEC championship game.

Fast forward a few years, and note the offensive juggernaut that Meyer produces at tOSU wins him a title with Herman as his OC. Then, on cue, Herman leaves for the HC at Houston and Meyers offense becomes pedestrian again with the majority of his players back.

I think the moral of the story here is how crucial the coordinator hires are for the "great" head coaches. We will see if Meyer's team can rebound.

Urban is one of the best at identifying great coordinators. Except that time he hired Scot Loefler.

Can't speak for the OP but I'm assuming his thought is based on Meyer being an offensive coach. Juxtapose Nick Saban who's considered his only equal or greater contemporary, Saban could hire a dozen different guys at any point in the last eight years to be his DC and he'd still put out a top 2-3 defense nationally.

Probably, but he's had the same DC so it's hard to make this comparison.

He's a head coach, not a coordinator.

This is based on nothing. Saban has had Muschamp and Smart running his defenses. If Smart leaves and someone else steps in with as much success, your point will stand. As of now, it's just conjecture.

Not really conjecture if you've followed Saban that closely. Not to mention he hired Smart as a DB coach when he was 29 years old. He was a GA at Florida State when Saban snatched him up... Saban has made Smart into what he is. Muschamp's early career was pretty similar.

That is all well and good, but when your top coordinator stays for a decade, it's hard to compare it to units that have coordinators leave for HC jobs.

Your statement is still conjecture, since there is no evidence one way or the other.

Crazy thread. I think Urban is great at offense, and Saban is great at defense, period.

Meyer hasn't made careers for any of his coordinators...
