Out of these 3 former powerhouses who do you see returning as a major force in college football? Which one do you think is least likely? For me I'd rank them from most likely to least likely as this.
1.Tennessee
2.Nebraska
3.Miami
But to be honest I don't think Nebraska or Miami will ever become consistently elite again.

*Since Tennessee never was a powerhouse, you have to eliminate them. I'll say:

1. Miami
2. Nebraska

*Unless you are talking about 60+ years ago.

Tennessee has the best chance.

Nebraska has no recruiting base, and Miami has no fan base.

Having recruits is more important.

If you could take Miami's recruiting base, Tennessee's fans + stadium, & Nebraska's mascot (cause a cornhusker >>>>>> an ibis or a shite-eating mutt/hillbilly volunteer).....then maybe we could start talking about a resurgence.

Who wants to live in fricking Nebraska?

Miami is a private school with shite facilities and obviously has little interest in football.

UT is in the best conference in America.

Nebraska.

Great facilities and fan base with a ton of resources.

With the right coach (and I believe Riley was a very good hire) they should be able to compete for the division crown and Big Ten title each year which will give them frequent shots at making the playoffs.

Even with average coaching the last few years they had multiple chances of returning to the top ten and making a run.

Seems like it has to be Miami, at least in the near future.

Nebraska I feel pretty confident won't be consistently elite again - their only chance is to follow Oregon's strategy: major marketing makeover that gives them a unique niche in their respective recruiting markets (the Midwest in this case instead of California). It can be done but I don't think it will be.

Jury's out on Tennessee. They have talent and they're in a down division inside of a financial machine of a conference, so you'd think they could have a breakthrough and reestablish themselves... but that's been the case for a few years now and it hasn't happened yet. You kinda have to wonder how long the window will stay open...

Miami's in the same spot as Tennessee, but they have a weaker conference giving them a better chance to make a breakthrough, and they're in a better recruiting location.

It depends on what you are saying. The U will never have sustained success ever again because of the lack of facilities/support. But they are sitting in the middle of a mother lode of talent. So they will have isolated years here and there where the stars align and they can make a run.

Nebraska is deader than Kelsey's nuts.

Theres a little part of me that wishes LSU would suffer the same fate just to get rid of the amazing amount of morons here and show them that no team is immune to losing the status of their program.

Even happened to Alabama, their favorite team in the world

You could easily throw schools like Notre Dame,Penn State, Michigan, and Texas to that list if you considered Tenn to be a powerhouse.

Best chance to be elite again:

1)Texas
2)Notre Dame
3)Michigan
4)Penn State
5)Tenn
6)Miami
7)Nebraska

2. Huskers
3. UT

IMO the huskers are the team on that list that are for sure done. They might have a good year and there but its going to be hard to sustain long term success the game has shifted. They have zero instate recruits to depend on.
Tennessee is almost in the same boat but they are closer to legit talent.
ND is a national brand and as much as I hate them they could probably have a legit run at some point again. I think Penn State is somewhere near the huskers and vols with chances of the program really coming back. However, the media does seem to shy away from bringing up their major black eye anymore. Id imagine though that its tough sledding recruiting as teams have a lot of ammo against them.

I think tennessee and miami have a chance, but nebraska will never get back to where they were in the 80s/90s. Each have their obstacles.

Miami and tennessee just need the right coach to re-enthuse the programs. Once miami gets some players and starts winning a little bit, the fans will slowly come back, and it could snowball from there into a powerhouse. Tenn needs to benefit from programs like lsu, auburn, uga and USCe slipping a little and then they can return to where they were in the 90s, a perennial top 10 team. There just isn't room right now in the SEC for Tenn to be that.

Nebraska has no shot.

I haven't reached a conclusion, but here is my take. Anyone agree/disagree?

Recruiting: Adv. Miami...they don't even have to recruit outside of Dade County. Former players are a tight-nit group.

Facilities: Nebraska. Memorial Stadium is very impressive. They also have top notch weight facilities.

Administration: Probably Nebraska. Tennessee is a close second.
Nothing is worse than a poisonous, apathetic administration. It can kill a program. Look at Colorado. The Buffs used to be a traditional "big name" team. They'd pull great players from New Orleans, Texas, and California (Kordell Stewart, Eric Bieniemy, Rashaan Salaam). They won a Heisman and a National Championship. Colorado was a national force. Then the administration decided they wanted nothing to do with the program. Now they are a Pac 12 whipping boy. Miami appears to have fallen the same path as CU. Nebraska has fired two coaches (Solich and Pelini) for going 10-3 and 9-3. The Nebraska Athletic Director essentially said that even though Pelini went 9-3, they weren't winning the big games and Pelini wasn't going to ever get Nebraska to the next level. That may turn some fans off, but I admire a program that strives for greatness.

Conference: Tennessee. You can't argue with the SEC right now.

Location: Miami. I'd personally say Knoxville, but I don't think recruits give a flip about the Smoky Mountains, crisp autumn season, etc..

Money: Nebraska. They've got around 1.25 billion compared to Tennessee and Miami's 850 million. This really isn't that big of a factor, but it shows that the University has the money available for upgrades, paying coaches, etc.

Fanbase: Flip a coin between Nebraska and Tennessee. I don't know much about Tennessee, but Nebraska fans are top class. They sellout every time...show up...they stay the whole game. I'd give them the edge, but I'm sure the Vols have some very loyal fans.
