A University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill student, who claims she was raped by a UNC football player, will hold a news conference Tuesday to discuss what she calls delays on holding her alleged attacker accountable.

quote:

UNC Sophomore Delaney Robinson is slated to speak publicly Tuesday afternoon in Raleigh, along with her father and her attorney, about the alleged incident that happened earlier this year on Valentine's Day in the Ram Village apartments on UNC's campus.

According to her attorney's office: "Robinson requested self-sworn warrants for misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor sexual battery as a result of the Orange County District Attorney's refusal to prosecute the case despite sufficient physical evidence."

quote:

The warrants were issued for Allen Artis. Artis, who is from Marietta, Georgia, is currently listed as a junior at UNC and is a linebacker on the football team

quote:

Robinson admitted to underage drinking on the night of the alleged incident and said in a statement that she takes "responsibility for that, but that doesn't give anyone the right to violate me. I did not deserve to be raped."

Meh. This is probably for attention. It's sad that a lot of accusations from females nowadays are completely false.

It definitely gives you pause before assuming guilt

Plus the press conference angle seems sketch

Delays by the school or law enforcement?

Prosecutors office not wanting to indict.

This has nothing on UNC.

thanks. didn't see this portion.

quote:

According to her attorney's office: "Robinson requested self-sworn warrants for misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor sexual battery as a result of the Orange County District Attorney's refusal to prosecute the case despite sufficient physical evidence."

Another article included the following

quote:

The alleged victim released a lengthy statement through her attorney and has agreed to address the media in a press conference. In her statement, she details her disgust in the investigation process after she filed her report to the school's Department of Public Safety. "They provided reassurances to him when he became upset," she said, detailing the experience of listening to the interviews between investigators and her alleged rapist. "They even laughed with him when he told them how many girls' phone numbers he had managed to get on the same night he raped me. They told him, 'Don't sweat it, just keep on living your life and playing football.'" "I did everything a rape victim is supposed to do. I reported it. I allowed the rape kit to be taken. I gave a statement. I cooperated with law enforcement and the Title IX office. But six months later the University has done nothing," she continued. "I'm taking this public stand not for me, but for the other students on campus who are not protected, despite what the University tells us. I love this University. It's my home. I plan on graduating. But I expect the University to fulfill its promises to me and to all students."

They are basically going over the DA's head an presenting evidence to a judge for him to independently ascertain if there is sufficient probable cause for an indictment/prosecution.

I'm trying to give this girl the benefit of the doubt but she needs to give a reason why he should have been indicted if she's going this route. Her statement suggests he should have been indicted because she followed the correct procedure.

From reading that, if there was anything to it I would imagine that the Title IX office would be all over it given recent events. If she followed all of the procedures and they all reviewed the evidence with no conviction, I have to tend to lean towards giving the DA the benefit of the doubt. At that point it's essentially out of the University's hands if the DA decided to not press charges.

I'm not really downplaying her claims, but her twitter feed does read:

It's sad you immediately call bullshite, but not sad that you question guilt. For whatever reason, Americans are just assuming people are guilty at an insane rate lately.

it shapes the course of discussion. Delays by the school calls into question whether schools should be in the business of investigating crimes. Delays by the DA brings up a whole other set of questions.

Schools should not be involved, it should be a police matter.

It was insanity that they were even put in that position. Are administrators supposed to put out dorm fires too?
