So you think Vince Young created the Longhorn Network? Or name any individual in the Big 10 created the Big 10 network?

Television companies aren't going to invest millions based on an individual that is at a school for a few years.

id say his performance definitley played a part in jacking the price up

i never said they were the only reason that happens. but individual players drive interest and you should be able to see that individual players drive the prices up for these media deals

I would say that Myles Jack is responsible for 80% of the number 30 Jersey sales for UCLA. This is obviously completely arbitrary number, but I do think that the University is responsible for a portion of his jersey sales. The only figures I could get was from 2012 where A&M lead the nation in revenue from jersey sales at $59,000. Say UCLA made that much in jersey sales last year, that puts him at making 47,000 for the University.

I refuse to add TV deals to a number for a player. Why? because they are used in negotiating deals not for schools to say, look we have this awesome player and he will drive viewership and revenue. But instead they use them to say, look we will awesome have awesome players and people will always be interested in us. Thus, one player does not make a tv deal, instead it is an amalgamation of players, coaches, and the university that the network thinks will be able put a quality product on the field.

Now lets look at what the university does for him. Pays for his school, pays for his tutors, tutors, books, housing, food, some clothes. Additionally they supply him with some of the best coaches and facilities to help him grow as a human and a player allowing him to realize his full monetary worth in the NFL.

His $47,000 pales in comparison to what receives.

There is absolutely positively zero ways to tier compensation in a fair way...and if you tried you're always going to have that guy who feels he should be the highest paid.

You can levelize compensation, but you'd be paying female rowers what LF7 makes. There's no good way to open up this can of worms

how is that any different than what happens in the pros? I'm not arguing for salaries. I'm arguing for players to be able to make money off their likeness and receive a portion of the media revenue pie.

I 100% do not agree with money off of TV deals.

However, the players should be able to make money off of their likenesses. It is terrible that they cannot. That is why I believe we will be going to the Olympic model in the future. Where players can make money off their likenesses outside of schools.

If the University of Florida Gators went 0-12 the football program would still produce millions in revenue. If Tim Tebow played for the Stetson University Hatters he wouldn't produce a penny of revenue

Olympic athletes =/= student athletes.

Also any NCAA athlete can make money off their likeness you just have to stop being an NCAA athlete.

probably because that tiny little school isnt trying to make money like UF is. UF definitely makes more money with tim tebow than they do without him

I don't think he's a dumbass, that being said, I also think a lot of these college players overrate their worth.

Agreed... To attend UCLA it costs an out of state student (like Jack) more than $58,000 a year. The average salary of a graduate directly out of college is somewhere around $46,000. I'd say he is getting a pretty good deal.

uh wrong. The education isn't free and it's value is severely diminished by the major he takes.
