Except when they put them on their commercials and pamphlets that they send to high schools...

i dont see schools putting those kids on TV every week, selling their shirts or jerseys, or parading them in front of the media like they do with star athletes
What??? You don't see people buying star computer science major Ravi Gupta jerseys in the student union?

Now, the fact he and other idiot athletes think they are not being compensated better get their head out their arse.
Posted on 10/8/15 at 6:32 pm to Lee Chatelain
There is absolutely nothing dumb about that.

Bottom line my point is that the amount that athletes get through their full ride is a very fair compensation. That's way more than probably 98% of the regular student body receives.
And I'm fine with them getting scholarships. They devote a lot of hard work and time to their sport. I just don't understand why they need more than that.

They are most certainly being compensated for playing football, baseball, basketball, etc.

but there are students who actively bring in millions of dollars and bring exposure to the university which only leads to more applicants. that is myles jack. and his worth is a frick ton more than 50,000 a year and a meal stipend
Let use a guy like Anthony Barr for example since they went to the same school. He didn't become a relevant player for UCLA until his Junior year... Since he didn't provide his "worth" should he pay UCLA back for his first 2 seasons of not being very good?
Why not make it a 2 way street? Make it into a real business right?

But outside of the jerseys that have a players number there isn't any revenue being made based on an individual.
Pretty much everyone who goes to college sporting events does it because they are fans of that school, not the individual player.
I would be cool with players being able to sell their signatures though. Just not receive extra money from their stipend and scholarship.

Nice contradiction. At least you admit they are getting paid.
Posted on 10/8/15 at 6:40 pm to WestCoastAg
Absolutely not. The SEC network didn't happen because of any single player. It happened because of the schools and the success of the TEAMS in the conference. And to an extent the fans.

LSU, Florida, and Alabama make the same amount of money off of TV as Kentucky and Vandy. I'd say that has nothing to do with individual players.

He got compensated via a full scholarship, free meal plan, free athletic training, free athletic treatment, free athletic gear, free room and board, free books and so forth. An education is priceless, and he won't be able to thrive in life if he faces an unfortunate injury during football.

how much value do you think kentucky basketball players bring to the school?
