With the Big 12 sitting at 10 schools, my theory has always been that the Big 12 needs to get back to 12 teams with a championship game. If the Big 12 ever decids to expand again, would UCF's victory over Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl be enough to get the Big 12 to invite them? Largest university in America. Expand your footprint into the state of Florida. UCF and who else....BYU, Cincinnati or maybe South Florida to give them a natural rivalry? Could this become realistic?

I don't see why not. I don't know who else they could throw in. BYU wants to stay Independent

Teams in the Big 12 aren't going to give up a game vs. Texas or OU to play UCF

No, UCF is below Texas. No commuter schools are allowed. Not joking about this.

I wouldn't be surprised if they look to expand out West somehow. Going to have to expand to get back to a conference championship game somehow.

I thought we all knew that ULL was their first choice.

New Mexico State and Idaho are available, and since neither school is in a conference, no worries about getting sued (like Baylor tried to do to A&M).

why do they need to have a championship game? I'll be nervous about not having a championship game when I see Notre Dame join a conference for this reason.

I dont understand why being a commuter school has anything to do with it? Miami is a commuter school and im sure they'd take them. I think the ability to get into the state of Florida would be the selling point. I mean do they want a quality football program or not? The Big 12 is going to have to get back to 12 teams to have a championship game. Remember this point, the NCAA football committe is going to take championship games and strength of schedule into consideration when selecting the final 4. Having a championship game helps your cause. Besides, who else is the Big 12 going to take? UCF, Boise St, Cincinnati and BYU are the highest quality teams out there. Other then that you have the Houston, SMU, New Mexico and Colorado States of the world. UCF and either BYU, Cincy or Boise St are the 2 best logical choices IMO.

I think just about everyone would take a 1 loss SEC champion or a 1 loss Big 10 champion etc.. etc.. over an undefeated Big 12 champion.

Big 12 has strength of schedule issues. The lack of a conference championship game makes SOS even worse.

No one unless they bring additional revenue per school.

Notre Dame and BYU both aren't in conferences, will the non-championship game matter for them as well.

laughable. An undefeated team from the Big 12, Pac 12, ACC, or Big 10 would never get left out of a playoff.

It shouldn't have anything to do with it. But it does. To understand this you have to understand the Texas Longhorn mentality. Unless you have been around it, then it cannot be explained.

I would suggest that they would rather leave the Big 12 and join the PAC before they start letting schools like UCF join the Big 12. They are more worried about their own brand than the Big 12.

Just how it is.

And you wont see either of them in the final 4 with their SOS. Maybe Notre Dame on occasions, but you certainly wont see BYU! The committee has already stated that championship games and strenght of schedule will way HEAVILY when selections are made. IMO the Big 12 would be foolish to not expand and get back to 12 and have a championship game. Its that last bump that every team needs late in the season.

Big 12 plays a round robin. Honestly a conference championship probably wouldn't make a big difference in the SOS IMO. It is better than Bama getting the easy eastern division teams during the season. You still play 9 conference games.

Yes. Big 12 are trying to figure something out. Of course fans that don't understand how the new playoff system works will not understand how an undefeated Big 12 champion could easily wind up not in the playoffs. Particularly true if they aren't named Texas or OU.

Maybe, maybe not, but on years where there arent any solid OOC wins and a down conference, they are going to need that last game to get them in, and they wont have it. You need that championship game for the image. Right or wrong, conference championship games make a difference. Ohio St needed that game, we didnt take advantage of it, but we needed it. One day, the Big 12 is going to need that game and they wont have it.

Well hopefully the committee isn't that stupid. If they play 9 conference games and play EVERYONE in the conference it shouldn't be an end of the world situation where they have to admit shitty schools into the conference immediately.

Other conferences are going to 9 game schedules too....AND a conference championship game. The Big 12 better hope to never have down year with that way of thinking. Say 2 undefeated SEC teams play in the SEC title game and are ranked 1 vs 2. Does the loser get left out over a Big 12 team who is ranked 4th but hasnt played a championship game? Also, look at how that helped Michigan St. They went from being ranked like 9th to 4th by beating Ohio St. To think that they could have been left out is ridiculous. The championship game helped them. Again, every conference has a championship game but the Big 12. They need to expand back to 12 teams...soon!
