Another university cans a coach because of PR. The dude stuck up for his players and wanted a fair process, and instead he gets fired after a 9-win season.

I hope they turn to shite the same way Kansas did after firing Mangino.

PJ Fleck would be a good fit in the state of Minnesota.

@McMurphyESPN: Minnesota QB Mitch Leidner: “This is terrible decision by the administration. This is a pretty sad day for Gopher football."

@McMurphyESPN: Minnesota QB Mitch Lender: “No one is happy w/administration right now. I don’t know who would want to be part of this program at this time"

I don't blame Leidner. If the school did't back a coach(who did nothing wrong), what makes one think that it will back the players?

Even if he had been told to keep quiet and tweeted out anyway it's pretty weak to make what he said a fireable offense.

However, I'd be willing to bet this has far more to do with their first year AD wanting to get his own guy in there and as soon as he found an excuse to drum up support to can Claeys he used it.

Tracy Claeys had the 2nd most win in a season in school history.

Tracy Claeys was the first coach in school history to win consecutive bowl games.

Gotta love the MSB...I guess I'm downvoted for not posting a link. Oh well...

Poor coaches...if they keep quiet, someone will ask why and demand they speak out. And when they speak out, it's not on the side of the PC crowd, but instead the players they help turn into men.

Yea but Minnesota is the land of a thousand lakes and Fleck loves to row the boat. Perfect fit.

If Fleck actually stayed there, he could wreck shite. Minnesota should be a competitive team.

When this first happened, a couple posters here were VERY confident that he was gone because of this.

I thought they were nuts, and they couldn't have been more correct.

I still don't understand why he was fired, or more to the point, I don't know any 1 thing he did wrong.

I know the players backed off the boycott when a report came out documenting why the kids got suspended. I didn't think it looked back that Claeys was supporting his team during all of that, but people are saying he threw the administration under the bus because he agreed to the suspensions, then went against the administration publicly. If he already knew the contents of the report, I guess that was dumb, but whatever.

I'd recommend you read the police report on what took place.

Furthermore the school might come out ahead with a better coach (Looking to hire PJ Fleck)

Stupid. It isn't like above average coaches are lining up to go to Minnesota. Beautiful state though

Tracy Claeys started his stint at Minnesota with one of the least-secure contracts in the country. He wasn't getting paid squat, relatively, and his buyout was next to nothing.

Claeys was officially hired in 2015 and was handed the position by Minnesota's interim Athletic Director. Following the interim AD is Mark Coyle from Syracuse who has no connection with Claeys and didn't hire him to start.

The sexual assault allegations that forced Minnesota to suspend players in September were directly-related to those same suspensions in December. Tracy Claeys, despite "agreeing" with the suspensions behind closed doors, took a public stand against his bosses (AD and President) and supported his players. The implications of the tweet was two-fold: (1) there was no longer trust between the administration and head coach, and (2) perception was that the tweet showed quite a bit of insensitivity.

Whether you agree or not with the firing, this was inevitable when you look at the above three "scenarios."
