Some notables
quote:
24. Shams Charania; Yahoo Sports
The former Woj protege at The Vertical had a very prolific period in NBA free agency, including breaking the news that Blake Griffin would remain with the Los Angeles Clippers and that Paul Millsap was headed to Denver. In terms of breaking news, he is a major star on the rise. He just graduated college last month.
quote:
12. Jesse Palmer; ESPN/ABC
Palmer is moving from college football games to the studio this season; he reportedly had talks with Fox to be an NFL broadcaster before opting to remain with ESPN. Palmer still has a high Q rating from when he was The Bachelor, and he appears on ABC’s Good Morning America. Don’t be surprised if there is a further announcement in the coming weeks about an additional project he will be embarking on outside of sports.
quote:
11. Katie Nolan; Fox (for now)
The next year will be fascinating to observe for Katie Nolan. She has been on the FS1 bench essentially since the Super Bowl, and is widely believed to be heading to ESPN either when her deal expires at the end of the year, or sooner if Fox were to let her out early. If that winds up happening, you can bet that both she and the network will seek to prove Fox made a big mistake in how they utilized her (she had her own weekly show for awhile; it had big social engagement but did not, in absence of a live sports lead-in, draw a noteworthy television audience). After what would surely be an initial blitz where she is on all sorts of shows, will she sustain momentum?
10. Ramona Shelburne; ESPN
Shelburne told me recently that in her late twenties, unsure if there was a path forward, she strongly considered leaving sports journalism. Shortly thereafter she became a columnist for the Los Angeles Daily News, and has since had a meteoric rise at ESPN. She appears up and down their studio programming, breaks big news (including the Paul George trade to OKC), and has written some deeply reported features on Ronda Rousey, Jeanie Buss, and the Ball family.
quote:
8. Clay Travis; Fox Sports Radio and Outkick the Coverage
Not too many people have a lukewarm opinion about Clay. He has a fervent following, and people who abhor him. Owning his own web platform in Outkick — and derivative Facebook/Periscope shows — enabled him to have the power to reportedly tell former FS1 boss Jamie Horowitz “thanks but no thanks” to an offer for his own daily television show under the condition he would refrain from discussing politics.
quote:
2. Bomani Jones & Pablo Torre; ESPN
This duo’s show is going to launch early in 2018, and will be produced by Erik Rydholm. On Tony Kornheiser’s podcast recently, Pablo said that the show will be less serious than some may expect, with a major goal being to make the viewers laugh. Pablo has spent the last several years at ESPN writing for the magazine, appearing on Around the Horn, and filling in on various shows, including PTI. Bomani has been co-host of Highly Questionable, and hosts a daily ESPN Radio show. He reportedly turned down a big offer from Fox to remain with ESPN.

Love the PMT guys at #1

I saw this earlier, there's like 100 people on the list.

We're fricked for "media talents" then.

Can't decide if I'm gay or not, but I've always like Palmer and his work on ESPN.

Palmer is one of my favorites too. He's articulate & knowledgeable. You can tell he really puts a lot of time in studying teams.
People hate on him for some reason.

Why don't you like the PMT guys?
Posted on 7/17/17 at 10:38 pm to GoldenBoy
I don't think they are overly talented, and they are just kind of riding a wave of popularity right now. Their constant barrage of joke attempts exposes their lack of comedic timing, in my opinion. Ya, at some point you are bound to say something funny. As a mid 30's male their fratboy-style humor just doesn't resonate with me. 10 years ago I think it might have but im not even sure.
I go through their podcast on iTunes and look at the list of all these great guests and get super excited, and just find it hard to sit thru their 30min interviews filled with stupid jokes. There could be a better balance there in terms of goofiness and seriousness

I kind of feel the same way. I used to read Barstool all the time, but when Deflategate happened I stopped going there entirely.
I do like Big Cat, so the PMT stuff isn't horrible to me and can be entertaining, but I do get kind of tired of it and don't use it for my actual sports entertainment when that's what I'm looking for.

Did you hear the Teixiera interview? That was one of the best interviews they have done.
Posted on 7/17/17 at 10:48 pm to Lester Earl
No Taylor Twellman or Stuart Holden?

Ya, while they of course had some jokes and laughs. I thought they asked some legit questions and was interested in what some of the answers would be

How did they fall arse backwards into the number one sports podcast for a solid year a half?
They put in a ton of work on that show and work nonstop on it. They keep the topics/jokes fresh for 3 shows a week and only take 2 breaks a year.
If you don't like them, that's cool, but to say they don't have a lot of talent is just ignorant

i mean how the did Donald Trump get to be our president? how does so much of the stupid shite become viral on the internet? why are stephen A Smith, cowherd and skip bayless making $4million dollars a year to troll america? why were Mike and Mike so popular for years?
I dont think finding your niche necessarily means you are talented. Nor do I automatically link high ratings to talent.
I'm sure they do work hard. Doesn't mean they are for everyone.

Bomani Jones is a racist piece of trash.

im not a fan myself, but his actual political plan to rally his supporters is very impressive. He didnt become president by accident
quote:
w does so much of the stupid shite become viral on the internet?
Thats not very applicable, as memes are fleeting. Theyve been getting consistently bigger and better for over a year now. Its not an accident after 100-150 episodes

Again these guys are smarter than you give them credit for. They found a niche and made a career out of it. PMT is the retaliation against that sort of talk radio hot take shite that they have also morphed into a legitimate sports talk show with great interviews that arent boring as hell.

Yes i will really be festering over your stick in the mud comedic tastes in 2032
Posted on 7/17/17 at 11:27 pm to Lester Earl
Trump became president the same way nearly every president before him did, by winning an election.
