I'm not sure. His rating is #1 all time though and his td: int ratio is over 4:1 (which is just ridiculous).

There has never been a better time to be a QB though. Don't get me wrong he's a first ballot HOFer no questions asked, but you can't look at these things in a vacuum like that.

re: Top 3 QBs of all-time
Even compared to his peers though, it's ridiculous.

Rodgers: 4.125
Brady: 3
Peyton: 2.147410358565737051792828685259
Brees: 2.1136363636363636363636363636364

Plus he plays outside up north and his best weapon is a hard working and intelligent guy.

re: Top 3 QBs of all-time
1) Manning (7x First Team All-Pro, 5x MVP, Titles with multiple teams/coaches)

2) Unitas (5x First Team All-Pro, 3x MVP, revolutionized the position)

3) Brady (7 Super Bowl appearances is hard to ignore, 2x First Team All-Pro)

Sure, so you compare him to his peers. Just so happens. 3 of his peers are top 5 level alltime greats. Brady/Manning/Brees.

Thing is, he doesn't just compare favorably to those 3. He very clearly plays the position of QB better than all the of those guys.

And when Unitas played you could rape receivers and hit the QB just about every play. There is a famous video of him getting a forearm to the face about two seconds after he threw the ball with no flag. I am aware that football doesn't count before 1990 here but they did actually play it and I wonder how today's QB's would fair with that type of violence awaiting them almost every time they dropped back.

Marino was and still is the best, purest, and quickest passer I have ever seen but...championships count to me. So if there are only three:

1. Brady
2. Montana
3. Manning

So, Charles Haley was a better linebacker than Lawrence Taylor? Championships are team awards. The Patriots have had great defenses the entire Brady era. The 49ers defense wasn't half bad either during the Montana era. Compare that to the Saints during the Brees era. How can you downgrade Quarterbacks because their defense was less than stellar. They don't play defense!

Not really. He plays the position better than anyone ever has. He can make throws Brady and manning only dream of.

The only difference is he doesn't have the yes, accolades, longevity and overall resume of guys like brady, Manning or Montana.

I have no problem saying right now that Rodgers is not a top 3 all time quarterback, but if there was an all time re-draft, he'd for sure be one of the top 3 qbs taken.

Jeez.

An entire thread of what happened the last 10 years in football.

Can we just mark this...

Top 3 Goodell era QBs for recognition of how things change, things fall apart...the center cannot hold.

It's really cool to see Marino getting so much love in this thread (childhood sports idol) but I can't say he's one of the top 3 qbs of all time.

1. Tom Brady
2. Joe Montana
3. Peyton Manning

re: Top 3 QBs of all-time
I was a huge Marino fan and was my favorite QB to watch for a decade ...maybe ever. I still wouldn't put him the top five greatest, much less three. I watched Staubach play and regardless of stats, he had that intangible character asset and ability to impose his will when it counts most... like these two others.

1.) Joe Montana
2.) Roger Staubach
3.) Tom Brady

Montana

Otto Graham.

lots of championships. all the qualities of leadership. fabulous on the field.

Graham was a much better athlete than Marino. Played on a pro basketball team that won the league championship, as well as 7 pro football championships.
My favorite Graham thing is that he led the college all stars vs the NFL champ Green Bay Packers. Packers were heavy favorites. Graham at QB. college kids beat the Pack. Graham had already won 3 or 4 championships in another pro football league. Graham and the entire Cleveland Browns team came into the NFL.
They won the championship.
Graham has the all time best yards gained per catch in the NFL.
quote:

Graham is regarded by critics as one of the most dominant players of his era, having taken the Browns to league championship games every year between 1946 and 1955, winning seven of them. With Graham at quarterback, the Browns posted a record of 114 wins, 20 losses, and four ties, including a 9–3 win–loss record in the playoffs. While most of Graham's statistical records have been surpassed in the modern era, he still holds the NFL record for career average yards gained per pass attempt, with 8.98. He also holds the record for the highest career winning percentage for an NFL starting quarterback, at 0.814. Long-time New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, a friend of Graham's, once called him "as great of a quarterback as there ever was."[1] He is also known for being one of only two people (the other being Gene Conley) to win championships in two of the four major North American sports—1946 NBL (became NBA) and AAFC championship, plus three more AAFC and three NFL championships.

drop Marino.

Typical MSB response:

2 system QB's in your top 3....LOL
Brees best ever.

However, I think you are correct!! I love Marino and think he is still to this day the best pure passer in the history of the NFL, but championships matter.
