No they can't. What the Patriots have done for 18 years is far more superior than what the Spurs have done.

Yea, now go one step further and consider the difference in doing those things comparably between the NBA and NFL...

You're comparing the competitive balance of the NFL to the NBA?

IT's certainly not "far more superior," that's just silly.

it's harder to stay elite in the NBA b/c of the superstar effect

The spurs could actually argue that they have been better for longer the pats have.

The point is, the Spurs locked up 3/5ths of their starting lineup for a large portion of the Spurs run. Now look at the Patriots... Brady is the one constant - 1/22. NFL free agency makes it harder in my opinion to do what the Pats have done compared to the Spurs.

Obviously, both front offices are top notch. I give the nod to the Patriots because (a) more positions to fill and (b) shorter shelf life of NFL players.

Harder to win nba championships just on the length of the season alone

Are people really comparing the NBA to the NFL?

Hell, in the NBA, you have a fake soft cap, while in the NFL its a true hard cap.

In the NBA you are paying 13 players, while in the NFL you are carrying a roster of 53 players.

In the NBA, more than half the teams make the playoffs, while in the NFL less than 40% do.

In the NBA, one bad fluke game like the Giants in 2007 and 2011 won't cost you a title.

It is by far easier to win a title in the NBA with multiple stars than win an NFL title.

The fact remains that both are impressive feats, but realistically, what the Pats have accomplished is much more difficult.

To add more:

Pats have been to 6 straight AFC championships and 11 of the last 16.

Spurs have been to the Western Conference finals 9 times in the last 18 with only two runs where they've gone 2 or more years straight (once back to back, and another 3 years straight).
