This my friend is the root cause of the problem. Overall women sports lose Million's of dollars that college's have to eat yearly. But the free ride numbers they HAVE to give women because of Title 9 is ridiculous. This is why baseball has to suffer the 11.7 rule.

The law isn't going anywhere. We're closer to adding more legislation. I can live with it as long as football isn't factored into the number. There is no female equivalent sport.

Pretty sure the SEC does Fairly well. Especially lately, the crowds are growing more and more.

Does any female sport make any money? Even UConn and Tennessee women's hoops lose money.

Every university is starting out knowing every women's sport will lose money. It's a terrible business model.

one of the arguments against schools paying players is only a handful of schools can afford it.

I'm not saying all schools can or even enough can to make it viable...but if schools could actually cut the sports that are losing money, stop paying coaches outrageous salaries, and cut costs in other areas, a lot more schools could be sustainable paying athletes than most think IMO.

Someone help me out here. What does Title 9 have to do with scholarships? Why does baseball only get 11.7? Cover all the athletes and call it a day. I don't understand why women's sports affect men's sports.

Not everywhere and that's like 3% of the baseball playing colleges and universities.

Quick and dirty version is there has to be an equal number of male and female scholarship athletes.

No doubt it was needed, but I find it hard to believe a school like LSU would just cut women's sports if title ix was done away with. IMO it limits the amount of men's sports at universities and opportunities for men. I don't think a sport should suffer because they can't put together a women's team to even out the scholarships.

Cut? no. Extremely de-emphasize spending? absolutely.

Men's swimming, men's track and field, men's golf, men's soccer, men's wrestling, men's cross country,...
all lose money.

The mission of a university is not to provide you entertainment.

It's to give our young people opportunity for higher education.

In the case of athletics both genders must have fair and equal opportunity to earn scholarships no matter what sport the participate in.

If you have 100 football scholarships then you must balance that with 100 scholarships for female athletics.

Colleges exist for one reason and one reason only: to field men's athletic teams. Why doesn't the rest of the world nut up and just agree with this?
