Statistically they're good but they are anything but elite

They'll need to put up 30+ today to win IMO

They gave up 41 to NC State and 32 to South Carolina

They are not elite by any stretch

Clemson ranks #7 in FEI defense.

OP says they are overrated.

OP is lost once again

How many points do you think they'll need to score today to win?

The ACC 6 or 7 of the top 20 defenses in college football.

I don't actually believe it though.

I remember when Florida State had a "top level" defense filled with "NFL talent" that was going to push Oregon around. Then Oregon put up over 600 yards and 59 points on them. The ACC is weak, and Clemson's stats have benefited from that.

Get used to it.

Clemson has the best DC in the country and is recruiting at an elite level on the defense.

Clemson had without a doubt the top D in the land last year and has a really good D this year (not as dominant as last year but they replaced like 8 starters).

Well, it was filled with NFL talent. Jimbo isn't all the great at his job so they didn't play well in college.

Lol you remember otherwise. Everyone who watch FSU closely last year said their D was overrated. They've lost too much NFL talent the last couple years (and lots of early departures like LSU). They haven't had those dominant playmakers lately.

Their young guys are scary good, though.

Strange, that sounds a lot like what I'm hearing this season about Clemson.

Because being the wire-to-wire playoff #1 is a lot like a team that dropped every week and was constantly mounting comebacks to save games.

Enjoy the fantasy land you live in.

They didn't have enough talent or playmakers on defense last year? Do you watch football?

I really hope Clemson wins today. They'll be a bye for whoever they slot at #4.

I've watched every bit FSU game the last decade. They didn't have the playmakers n the front seven the last two years that they typically have.

A Clemson team with a freshman QB, freshman RB and freshman WRs all over the place went up and down that D in Tallahassee. Self-inflicted mistakes were the only thing that kept em from dropping 40 on that D. Then Oregon proved what happens when you don't make mistakes.

FSU has the young talent to return to previous levels very soon, but the last two years they haven't had elite playmakers in their front seven. I don't think any FSU fan would deny that.

Boy has Dabo elevated the Clemsoning term when losing to a top 10 team on a double-digit win streak is considered Clemsoning.

I wonder what is considered Milesing. Would every loss he's ever had be considered Milesing if that's the definition we're using?

Edwards and Goldman went 35th and 39th. Their secondary was fricking STACKED. They never have elite LBers. Last year's defense was the most talented defense Jimbo has had.

Coaching held them back

That last sentence is patently false. I agree with you they were more talented than they played, but FSU's D last year was above average at best.

Edwards and Goldman are both nice players, but neither can hold a candle to Jernigan.

Clemsoning

1. The act of failing miserably on a grand athletic stage, or when the stakes are high. 2. Record-setting failure, usually reserved for college football.

I'd say this would fit the definition, even giving serious consideration to your inflation of UNC.

This is my point. They're a really average program considering their talent advantage over their competition.
