oh and bench pressing is overrated for football.
when are you going to be lying down in a football game pushing upward.

jerks, cleans, snatches, squats, and deadlifts are much more important.

Was always told the more you could clean the harder you could hit.

its a positive correlation but one doesnt neccessarily cause the other.
it is probably one of the more relevant movements in order to produce a harder hit. especially if you use precise olympic lifting technique and perform fast repititions
personally i believe leg work and glute work is way more important than the upper body muscles.

i also believe conditioning and overall team speed is a little more important in football.
you can be strong as an ox but if you are gassing, cramping, etc by the start of the second half kiss your arse goodbye
