Reading the statement, Masters officials state that they reviewed the infraction but cleared Tiger prior to signing his card. They admit that they had a change of heart after hearing his press conference.

Basically Tiger's press conference exposed the fact that the Master's gave Tiger leniency hoping no one would notice. They made a retroactive decision to cover their tracks.

@TigerWoods 7m
I didn’t know I had taken an incorrect drop prior to signing my scorecard. Subsequently, I met with the Masters Committee Saturday morning..

?@TigerWoods 6m
and was advised they had reviewed the incident prior to the completion of my round. Their initial determination.

?@TigerWoods 5m
was that there was no violation, but they had additional concerns based on my post-round interview. After discussing the situation...

@TigerWoods 4m
...with them this morning, I was assessed a two-shot penalty. I understand and accept the penalty and respect the Committees’ decision.

They thought he followed the rule based on how close his drop was.

That is BS. They had to have seen the same replay all of us saw on NATIONAL TV!

He followed the rule. His drop was "near" the original lie.

What is 'near'? It's a poorly worded rule.

exactly.

could've been closer or farther away but well within reason.

I agree Tiger felt he did nothing wrong. The committee changed their mind. Tiger should NOT be penalized for the committee changing their minds.

Not when you admit to dropping it "two yards" from where your original shot was.

I'd bet all the money in my bank account, which isn't much, that no way did Tiger come up with or even tweet that himself.

I completely agree. Tiger's post round interview is what fricked him over.

The rule isn't just "near" the original lie. It's as near as possible.

You people pretending Tiger didnt do anything wrong are just as bad as the ones claiming coverup and demanding he withdraw.

This was a good result from a tricky situation.

My point is Masters cleared him and then back tracked. They saw how far he was from his original mark and were ok with it. It shouldnt matter what he said in the presser.

So Tiger was saved by a rule for intentionally cheating...

They misapplied the rule... why create a rule to protect cheaters??????

Correct on the rule language. I'm just baffled that when a player decides to drop a ball farther than the original lie (even when it's a couple feet away) is a penalty.

You don't think they discussed it prior to him signing his card.
