Thugs of NBA & NFL vs "not thugs" in NHL

"Thugs"
That's what we often say when a fight breaks out in the NBA or NFL.
Throw a punch? Multiple game suspensions and a "black eye" to the sport.
Huge fines, public apologies, 3 day rant on radio about how something needs to be done to save the children.
With how physical these games are, shouldn't thy be allowed to scuffle?
Why can hockey players beat the shite out of each other but other players are thugs in different sports?

Fights and intimidation are actually part of hockey strategy. Now when there is a bush league hit, ie Todd "I should be in jail" Bertuzzi, people do cry foul.

Ive seen black hockey player fight and no one said thug and it barely was mentioned.

It is a part of the hockey culture. Guys who play hockey are taught to defend and fight from the beginnings.. They expect this, they know this is a part of the game and are on board with this.
This is not the culture, nor the teachings of guys who grow up playing NBA and NFL. Fighting has no place in these sports.

Players beating players does not equal thugs
Players going into the stands is probably what has you thinking thugs
Fighting in general doesn't cue the thug talk, it's all the other legal troubles

If hockey players were black and tattooed, they would likely be deemed "thugs," even if it were an "accepted part of the game." You have to really try to be dense to not realize there are racial overtones behind the word "thug." Just look on the OT.

Hockey fights are more wrassling anyway. A punch on skates is no where near a punch on solid turf/court in terms of impact.
