Lott was great at knocking the piss out of 175lb defenseless receivers and could lay a good lick on a 200lb running back in the 80s and 90s.
A 6.5, 250lb man that runs a 4.6 or so and is running at him, not trying to catch a pass is going to put Lotts dick in the dirt.

People in this thread don't understand how good Cam Newton is at avoiding big hits. He's only been hit hard on a couple of occasions in his life. And I've never seen a player get the best of Cam when both go 1 on 1 in the open field.

I can tell you have no respect for Lott. Lott was a hitter but you're right he'd not destroy him. The Lott myth is a lot like the Bo running over Bosworth myth, shaped by the media.
Atwater may have been more of a bigger hitter than Lott. Tatum for sure was.

I'm serious. I don't get the whole notion that things were more violent back then. They weren't. There are more rules to protect players but it's just as violent now.

Headhunter and big hitter different. Cecil did deliver big hits but he also targeted high most of the time. I think David Fulcher and a Cam collision would be interesting as they're about same size and speed.

Indeed. I am 53 years old so I'm from the "old school". But the difference in size, speed, and power these days gives the "new school" players a HUGE advantage.
Just as an example, John Hannah was one of the best OL in the history of the game and fricking dominated in his era.
John Hannah's playing weight was 265 lbs.
John Hannah would get his shite WRECKED against the elite DL of today's NFL.
